armands_briedis I think one my favourite movies of all time will always be The Crow. I was 10 the first time I saw it and I still watch it sometimes. It's one of the most visually stunning movies I have ever seen and they pulled it off more than 20 years ago without all the CGI technology we have today. It's a work of art in every frame. Story wise it's full of pain and loss, and the movie captures it so well that it always puzzles me how they could make such a dark and depressing story so beautiful and exciting at the same time. And then there's Brandon Lee - the actor of the main character who got accidentally killed on the set by a malfunctioning firearm. This fact alone makes the movie even more interesting as the movie itself questions the nature of death. This movie influenced me in such a way that I started to appreciate the beauty of all dark and scary things we experience. Most people usually look away when experiencing something negative, but I am always driven to understand it and appreciate it if nothing can be done about it. It's very interesting how art can change our personalities and the things we like. The Crow is the suppressed rage of poets and artists everywhere burning their oppressors on a dark wind-swept night and it's one of those movies that got many people interested in the goth culture and elevated it into a whole new level of popularity. At its heart it is a simple revenge movie; a soul drawn back to a corrupt living world to punish those that killed him and his fiance, but the way it's portrayed sets it apart from similar movies. It's a dark journey in a post-industrial hell-scape in search of those who wronged him. If you're looking for something dark and beautiful, this is it.
Cinema Oddity Spoiler-free The word "marvelous" is best used for a movie like this. The reason this movie is so notorious for it's themes will be addressed last. One of the most striking visual styles is in this movie. It was originally supposed to be black and white. While the idea was scrapped, the movie gives off a monotone feeling of sleep and solitary, the movie is possessed by a look of darkness and gloom. The writing is sharp, funny, yet it makes you think. The violence in the script is handled maturely and with a rock n' roll style. The CGI isn't perfect but it holds up for a movie like this. The one flaw is certain dialogue can be stale, but it doesn't really affect the whole story. Side note: Listen to the Cure's "Burn", it is equally haunting and is the official song for the movie And then there is Brandon Lee. His acting makes me feel like he really is dealing with a tortured soul. This movie became infamous following his accidental on-set shooting. The death gave the scenes a melancholy feeling and as if this were made to capture his real life. This film is a tribute and memory of a haunting performance from a genuinely great film 1994 gave us Pulp Fiction, The Shawshank Redemption, and Leon: The Professional, yet the most overlooked is this Gothic masterpiece
artisan It is not an easy thing to make you feel the presence of a person, who disappeared in the first couple minutes of the movie, in the portrayal of an another one.I love the fact that how I could feel the void inside Eric. How I could feel the misery.Consistent use of color tones is another remarkable thing that I appreciated. It was like looking at a one single beautiful piece of art, rather than trying to grasp what is at stake in each frame of a flow. Nothing was deflected.I'd just wanted the journey last longer so that maybe we could see an in-depth character development through which maybe I could empathize even more with Eric. Also it appears to me that whole entire story can be created to reflect the weirdness of the sibling villains. I'm not sure whether I would want it but sure it can be done as there are too many materials in them.Lastly, It's not a hero movie about a strong guy but a story of a vulnerable guy who tries to go back into light, near to his beloved one. Struggles of him reflected to every ground of the movie and even to the coloring. I feel sad, angry sometimes and slightly happy. Actings do not really have flaws and the movie successfully tells whatever it likes to say implicitly. So you can take whatever you want or you don't, then just enjoy.
