Synopsis

The pirate adventures of Captain Flint and his men twenty years prior to Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic “Treasure Island.” Flint, the most brilliant and most feared pirate captain of his day, takes on a fast-talking young addition to his crew who goes by the name John Silver. Threatened with extinction on all sides, they fight for the survival of New Providence Island, the most notorious criminal haven of its day – a debauched paradise teeming with pirates, prostitutes, thieves and fortune seekers, a place defined by both its enlightened ideals and its stunning brutality.

leightonx It's one of the greatest shows. Toby Stephens as Captain Flint/James McGraw is just absolutely BRILLIANT. Don't be put off by the first episode and all the sex. The show has much, much more to offer than just sex and nudity. If you love a good story, clever dialogue, great acting, beautiful music whatch it already. You will not be dissapointed. Oh, the music alone is just...
lisak-113-832403 Rather over American- ridiculous white teeth, constant "sked-ules" instead of the English "Shed-lies" but it seems from the first ep like good fun, if rather brain dead good fun. Perhaps I'll get into it more as it goes on but it's rather empty for me at present
elyon_frost I will start with what's most important to me: the show isn't cancelled or one of those "It was good when it started...but..." creations we often see. Not only it has an ending, it has, in my opinion a pretty good one, trying up all lose ends. Nothing seems rushed, forced or out of nowhere. Every death in the series (As far as I remember) seems planned out and is treated with respect, so much so, it's hard to e mad someone is dying. The characters, being quite a lot of them, are well developed and their actions are explained and understandable - there are no villains, just people who want different things and change sides constantly to get them. It's pretty much everything one would want from a pirate story. Needless to say the show looks beautiful - one look at the trailer can tell you this much. The actors are great, it has a surprisingly realistic tone and a very interesting story, although it takes about half a season for the plot to kick in, as the beginning of the series is more about who is who, who they hate and what they want. It's rare to see a series so well executed from start to finish, without any behind the scenes problems becoming apparent in it's quality. It's definitely worth a watch even if you are not into pirate stories in particular.
vadsang This show could have been absolutely fantastic. And actually some of it is... especially seasons 2 and 3. But then they stall alot with conversations that have no real importance or meaning, and dont really seem to add anything to the characters. At the start, this is intriguing, to get a sense of the world, but as the series progress, I really started losing patience with all these stalling, undramatic conversations. And once we reach season 4, they really seem to struggle to prolong the drama, and characters start making decisions, which do not seem logical to their siturations and temper, in order to keep the drama going. The show becomes increasingly uninteresting and the drama lacks flow. Too bad, for a show with alot of potential.
