Back when I was young there was a saying when faced with an impossible task and you simply called it "MacGyver". It was of course due to the show starring Richard Dean Anderson as the titular MacGyver who could whip up a solution to any problem with whatever was near by. It was corny and kinda cheesy but it was fun.So when I heard they were re-imagining this I really didn't think it would work. After all when you try to re-imagine a show often times the things that worked are no longer there and they're replaced with pointless action sequences to keep things running. And boy did that come true in this one. The original MacGyver showed us that with a little bit of brains and know how, you could solve any problem. The new guy is a brash jerk who thinks he's in Mission Impossible. It's like they took everything that made the original charming and just threw it away in favor of this guy just being awesome all the time and getting it on with the girl Nikki. How this managed to go three seasons is really beyond me.

The synopsis given for this re-imagined version of the original is a bit laughable. The new MacGyver requires a whole back up team. They should have just given the role to George Eads, as his character at least embodies the sense of action and fun that the original show had. I suspect some bean counter thought he was too old for the role, but that just goes to show that they didn't understand what made the original show so great. The new MacGyver has more angst than brains. And I can't help but notice that in the photo they are using, they put Eads in front of the title character. That's pretty telling.

I like shows that make science look cool. George Eads is fun.

It's an exciting series allows the viewer to think outside the box to solve the problem.
