sakram This is one of those Zac Efron movies which made me a big fan of his, where he totally nails it good along with a perfect partner that is Thomas Lennon, who indispensably did a pretty fine job too and added his unique touch on the movie.17 Again granted us a quite entertaining experience for a concept that is too sensitive to play with, and might go in a really bad way in case of not being handled properly. But the director knew what he was doing, he gave us an indisputably-good comedic movie which I would recommend to my friends.8/10
Jamesfilmfan905 17 Again tells the story of a man named Mike O'Donnell played Matthew Perry who ever since he has graduated from High school his life his been collapsing slowly around him he is about to be divorced from his High School sweetheart Scarlet played by Leslie Mann his kids Maggie and Alex don't want anything to do with him but after one mysterious encounter with a janitor Mike is transported back into his teenage body and is given a 2nd chance at turning his life around reliving his high school life all over again whilst helping along his kids along the tricky path to adulthood that he failed himself . This isn't a particularly original movie the plot is strung together with a load of clichés we've seen in many other romantic comedies and body swap flicks the performances are the best thing about it Matthew Perry isn't really given a chance to shine as the older Mike this is the Zac Efron i was concerned about this role thinking it would be a retread of his performances in those dreadful High school musical comedies but i was surprised Efron was Charming , engaging and very sweet he is not just a pretty boy with a nice haircut who showed off his dramatic chops pretty well especially a very moving court scene where he reads a letter that was written by the older Mike trying to not only rekindle the relationship with the great love of his life but to also tell her the older Mike is trapped inside of him . Overall this is a fun and charming flick that benefits from a charismatic performance by its star Zac Efron who saves the movie from being the excruciating mess which it could've ended up being without his presence in it .
Davis P This movie was soooo UNfunny in every single scene. This is supposed to be a comedy, let me just tell you it wasn't!! Can't believe this film got 55 out of 100 on Rotten Tomatoes! It deserves a lot lower! Personally, not a huge Zac Efron fan, didn't think he did a very good job in the movie. I didn't laugh once!! I was so bored, and I wanted the movie to end a lot sooner than when it finally did! I just think there are a lot better comedies to watch and actually laugh at out there. This movie was a huge disappointment to me, and I'm sure it also disappointed others that saw it! Overall I'll give 17 again a 2/10, seriously you can do better than this mediocre "comedy" movie.
Dominic LeRose Hollywood loves to use the whole back in time component to make cheap films with simple humor and innocent plots. They've done it again with "17 Again" starring Zac Efron as Mike O'Donnell, a once middle-aged man played by Matthew Perry who wishes he was 17 again and wakes up to find out that he's 17 again and that fitting into high school isn't as easy as he thinks. This film is so unoriginal and so not funny that it becomes exhausting after a while. Mike befriends his son and daughter (not knowing that he's their dad), tries to hit on his wife, joins basketball, tries to create peace and eventually causes a lot of tension. Each scene is full of lazy humor and a forced screenplay, becoming repetitive. After a while the film becomes very frustrating and I felt no sympathy for Mike or any other character and didn't really care how the film ended. For someone who did care about the film, the end may be very disappointing for you. Zac Efron overdoes his comedic role and sometimes tries to act dramatic which doesn't work. There are tons of frustrating scenes in which Mike's identity might be revealed or that something unwanted by Mike may occur that are plane irritating. "17 Again" also is stereotypical in the high school setting. The look of the school, teachers, students, parties are all so typical that you don't get a good setting for the film. Directed simply by Burr Steers for a paycheck, "17 Again' has no pride or passion that it becomes clear to the audience that this was made simply to put teenage girls in the seats to see Zac Efron act terribly and get an unoriginal plot with absolutely no rich humor what so ever. Nothing works with "17 Again?"
