Synopsis

A decade after An Inconvenient Truth brought climate change into the heart of popular culture comes the riveting and rousing follow-up that shows just how close we are to a real energy revolution. Vice President Al Gore continues his tireless fight, traveling around the world training an army of climate champions and influencing international climate policy. Cameras follow him behind the scenes—in moments private and public, funny and poignant—as he pursues the empowering notion that while the stakes have never been higher, the perils of climate change can be overcome with human ingenuity and passion.

samuelrein 10 years later this movie's theme is no longer an inconvenient truth but has become a politically correct celebration of the Al Gore political character and achievements. I find this documentary to be lacking ambition in terms of ecological activism. The new challenge is no longer carbon emissions as this has now been widely accepted but rather how can we make a difference on an individual basis and this is precisely where Al Gore fails to deliver. He only talks a few seconds about the elephant in the house, the real inconvenient truth most don't want to hear about which is the impact of animal agriculture and how our dietary habits impact the environment. If you look for something that will really teach you how to make a difference for the planet move on to cowspiracy and what the health. Looking at this documentary and Al Gore's speeches I couldn't help wondering what kind of eating habits this slightly overweight man has and could it be that he doesn't want to be too inconvenient after all? Nevertheless I recognize that when the first documentary came out it created a much needed shift in our understanding and willingness to move on the topic of climate change and carbon's emissions. It feels like Al Gore's generation has taken it as far as they could or were willing to go and the new pressing challenges are to be taken up by the next generations. I guess learning to live as a specie without destroying the planet is a journey and those who aren't ready to consider the full picture need to start somewhere and for then Al Gore's documentary is a good starting point.
bettycjung 2/25/18. Not as ground-breaking as its predecessor but necessary. That's because one would think that since 2006 we would have seen some progress towards a more global addressing of what is basically a fact of life. Yes, there is the 2015 Paris Agreement in which only ONE country has not joined the rest of the world's countries to address this issue. That's good progress. This sequel just adds more statistical evidence that climate change will have serious effects on the environment that will affect mankind as well. See 2006's "An Inconvenient Truth."
OneEightNine Media Would have been better if it was more like the first one - like a straight up lecture full of evidence. The subject matter is very important, of course; however the editing of the film is sloppy and all over the place up until the final 20 minutes or so when then start showing how India more or less held the world hostage and got advanced solar technology patent rights out of it. In a funny twist of fate, after this movie was released India went back to going full Industrial and has beaten China when it comes to smog. Lol, this world is doomed.
brankovranjkovic Documentary that deals with complex environmental issues and is the sequel to the Oscar winning original. 'Truth to Power' stresses the importance and severity of the crisis. There are disturbing environmental images, and we realise that the impact of climate change is real and that something must urgently be done to save our planet. The messages are powerful and unsettling. Al Gore is, and has been a strong advocate and spokesperson for highlighting climate change, we see him travelling the world providing training seminars for many thousands of climate change evangelists. Al Gore was also key to getting The Climate Change Treaty passed in Paris where 200+ nations agreed to fight the effects of global warming. The film shows the progress already made towards alternative energy sources and what more can be made. Everyone can help make a difference. How could this be anything less than a 10 !
