maxmages Of course it is nice to see the same scenario in a different environment and that in the same film series but what I do not like at all is that the tone and the mood of the movie are completely in another direction. The narrative arc where unfortunately spanned and the humor exaggerates it in many places and tried too often convulsively funnier than he should. This of course results in the fact that most of the film is completely unpleasant, the whole serious moments are only mediocre and I did not enjoy this movie. And that's a mistake, such movies are not there to teach people or to make them think so much, these movies are supposed to be fun and have cool effects, though the effects could somehow be seen, I am really disappointed that it has become so boring and unpleasant I should not have been that.I like the end the. And even alternative ending is actually pretty cool and if it were not for Bruce Campbell I would not like this movie at all but unfortunately it's my least favorite part.
vikas Gupta We closed it after 40 mins. Boring, CARICATURAL. The famous director has lowered himself with this one. It was a serious letdown.
classicsoncall I can understand how this film wound up a cult classic but it did very little for me. It's difficult to categorize what genre it's in, as it combines elements of horror, sci-fi, comedy and camp, along with a lot of farcical nonsense. So maybe that's the appeal for dyed in the wool fans who have watched it over and over again, judging by it's positive reviews on this board. I have to admit though, the concept was cleverly outlandish, taking a modern day housewares clerk and transporting him back to the medieval ages along with his car and a chainsaw. Lots of possibilities there, but then it degenerated into a lot of downright silly battles against evil demons and a whole host of skeleton warriors. I guess that's where the Army of Darkness comes in. Without acknowledging it's origin in the 1951 sci-fi classic "The Day The Earth Stood Still" (one of my favorite movies by the way), our hero Ash (Bruce Campbell) is given a secret password to retrieve a deadly scripture known as the Necronomicon. However it sounded to me like the second word in the phrase 'Klaatu, Barada, Nikto' was changed to something like 'Verata', or at least that's the way I heard it. The original usage of the term in the earlier movie was also used as sort of a password to let a supporting character advise an alien robot that it's Master Klaatu was in trouble. In retrospect, now that I think about it, the usage of 'Klaatu, Verata, Nikto' here might have meant the whole picture was in trouble. (But in a good way for all you loyal fans.)
Pjtaylor-96-138044 The third entry in the series is certainly the strangest, with a medieval setting and completely comic tone - think a three stooges skit mixed with a whacky cartoon with Bruce Campbell right in the centre. 'Army Of Darkness (1992)' does have its lion's share of memorable moments and quotable one-liners, but it just isn't 'Evil Dead.' Its possible to divorce the experience from the franchise and have fun with it, silly and irreverent fun with a Saturday morning cartoon feel to it. Campbell is suitably ostentatious as his new, one-liner spewing self and the physical comedy on display is enjoyably impressive, as well. In its series context, though, it loses all the grit of the prior titles and, as such, the mix between horror and humour is incredibly imbalanced. A disappointing third-entry, especially for those who favoured the genuine gore and scares of the prior titles, but a decent slapstick comedy. 6/10
