Davis P Because I said so (2007) was a pretty big let down. I'm a humongous Diane Keaton, so that's really why I watched this movie late one night on TV, I was hoping it would be a great one like almost all Diane's films. But with this film, it's poor script and dull screenplay was it's ultimate downfall. Diane and Mandy Moore actually had good chemistry, and their acting wasn't bad, but they just had very poor material to work with, it's really not the actor's fault, it's the writers fault. The casting was pretty good and I enjoyed the characters. But even with good actors, a movie like this can still fail due to poor writing. So unfortunately that is the cause of death for because I said so, poor writing :/. 3/10 for Because I said so. It did have sons occasional heart warming moments between Diane and Mandy, so that's why I'm not giving it a 1 or a 2.
abeced All the rotten critics about DIane Keaton in this film are absolutely right. And in fact it is because of that, she is succeeding to play the part which is what is expecting of her : a horrible obnoxious mother, which gets on the nerves of her daughters and therefore on the spectators. In fact each time they are scenes were she is not present the film is getting enjoyable. To make it simple, the spectator are feeling exactly what the fictional daughters of her are feeling with their fictional pushy mother. (((((In a way, her role in the film represents exactly the effect she has in most of the movies where she is acting : she is bearable or enjoyable or excellent as long she is not too often present: otherwise the spectator feels rapidly like an overdose of her. There other actors like her who are having the same effect (i'm not giving names..), and it is always a surprise to me that they director or casting responsible don't realize that they should pay the audience to watch and not the other way around)))). To come back to "Because i say so", the annoying Keaton's acting makes the film is worthwhile/interesting because it is, in fine, what the story is about.
cazmir You will love the mother and the baking that goes on. The girls are lovely. My favorite part of the movie is when the girl is in Johnny's place and the bowl breaks. He says it's just an off day, there will be other better days. I love how the movie ends and I think there is value in seeing how the two men differ and who she chooses in the end.The mother has her own issues that get ironed out during the film. There is also a boy in the picture with one of the men making it a harder choice for her. And the other guy Has money. I like how tight the family is and how she finally chooses the right guy. You will feel good at the end.
lohrasb It's not the talent or performance of the actors here in question, but the whole concept this movie is based on! It is yet another politically correct production in which feminism is yet again, and very much, in the viewer's face! The core principle of such school of thought is role-reversal under the disguise of gender equality. As in many other and recent motion pictures, female transgressions in a relationship are simply overlooked or forgiven, when the culprit appears to be offering a mere expression of remorse. The trouble is that the same doctrine doesn't let off male perpetrators that easily,at least not before rolling them through all levels of eternal damnation! It preaches this message to women: Not only there's nothing insane about wanting it all, but you can have it all! In real life, the only reason elderly women attract younger, handsome men is their purse or the fact that it's been a long dry season! But here, apparently the younger man is attracted to a senior citizen, whose skin wrinkles in layers! Just how unrealistic does it have to become before the penny drops?
