stonedraim **** May contain strong spoilers ****This is a review made by StoneDraim... and that means that if you want to read a probably different kind of review, keep reading....This is my personal experience, my personal point of view/perspective and my personal opinion... and my opinion is just one of like 7 billions in this world.Big Nothing. What is it? A comedy? A tragedy? I would say black satire and comedy interwoven and imbued with blood... and a septic tank.I have an expression I am using now and then when people ask me about movies: "Everybody dies of an overdose of drugs." Well....why am I writing that one here...? Watch the movie. ;)That is what I have to say about this one.Over to the movie as a product: - The production : Standard American production, all in all. Some glitches and errors here and there... one when Gus is speaking with the police besides Charlie and Josie; two different facial expressions in quick zooming cuts. - The actors : Simon Pegg, David Schwimmer and Alice Eve could all have been better with a great director. - Entertainment : A typical "parody-of-catastrophe-where-everything- goes-bad-for-people-hiding-the-truth". If you are seeking for clichés, look this one out (hmmm...I wonder if the gentleman with thick glasses and diabetes is coming back and have a big part of the story? Well....) - Age : 15. Blood, killings... and one drowning in a septic tank.5,4 out of 10. (The final rate is based most on my own entertainment of the movie. Short elucidation of the rating: 5 Approved. 4 Failed. Lacking in character.)
Vincent Rarely has a film title so perfectly summed up a film. This is a Big Nothing. It is hard to say the jokes weren't funny because there weren't any. There was in fact nothing almost nothing funny in this film.Alice Eve, who I'd never heard of, delivers a reasonable comic performance while Pegg and Schwimmer flounder about unsure whether to be joking or serious at any given moment. The directing is terrible with the change from slapstick to drama happening is a very jarring and annoying way.The writing is poor, with neither the drama or the humour being worth watching and the dialogue is dull at best. The plot is a mixture of movie clichés with nothing added. The film isn't even worth hating but it is worth avoiding.
ashwin-avasarala I saw this movie yesterday, and I must say I was impressed. Where do i start? The music, the cinematography, the plot or the acting? Well the music was delightful. A little different from what you usually hear running in the background. The cinematography is simply superb, whether it is the choice of colors or background or the usage of split screens or just the swift movement of camera. The actors did a good job. All actors played their characters convincingly, especially Simon Pegg. The plot. Oh My GOD!. After a long time have I come across a plot like this, with so many twists and turns that it just keeps getting wackier every minute. You get so involved in the plot, that you feel sad when.....I'll leave the rest for you to watch :)
charlytully Hey, folks, this is a "black comedy." So what could be funnier than BIG NOTHING's execution-style slaying of a diabetic law enforcement officer by force-feeding him sugar until he convulses and croaks? Sure, I have a close relative with diabetes, and an in-law who passed away from the disease last week, but--holy moly!--this is JUST a movie: a dark spoof. Since BIG NOTHING made almost 84,000 pounds (which sure sounds like a lot of honey--oops, money) in its country of origin (the United Kingdom), BIG NOTHING 2 surely is in the offing, and the laughs will have to be even FUNNIER! Which leaves the filmmakers with a real dilemma, since all the funny people died in Part One (and Simon Pegg does not want to do another zombie flick). Therefore, since they'll need (probably lesser) replacement actors, the sick jokes must be EVEN MORE OUTRAGEOUS. Well, BN-I refers to Stephen Hawking, shows the cover of his book (A BRIEF HISTORY OF TIME), and thanks him TWICE in the credits. BN-I also features a snippet from a (hopefully fake) male-on-female snuff film. Which raises the possibility of ALS jokes, wheel-chair-down-the-stairs humor, and celebrity snuff! I'd go on, but it might be construed as aiding and abetting already-warped minds.
