Dar Star Children of Men is well crafted movie with solid acting from its lead characters. The background story is light in detail as to why man has become sterilized, but it takes the concept forward well and is very thought provoking. The cinematography is quite good and the battle scenes at the end are intense and visceral. I rate it a solid 8 out of 10.
charliekusiel Just finished Alfonso Cuarón's "Children of Men", and let me tell you, I did not see something of its scale coming when I loaded it into the DVD player. The first half an hour or so I was kinda confused, I'll admit, but eventually I caught on and got pretty engrossed in it. The acting was so phenomenal. Certain characters, such as the ones played by Clive Owen and Clare-Hope Ashitey stood out. Their performances intensified the story to an extreme point of me having to press pause and take a breather. The cinematography was also very impressive. The use of long shots were extremely effective, and at one point in the movie, a split of blood stayed on the camera lense for several minutes. These kinds of details have the film a unique style so in sync with the story. Something else I noticed that has never stood out to me before was sound mixing. They used layer upon layer upon layer to create this gritty realisticness. The sound department did a great job of bringing certain sounds out at the right time. Combine the sound, eye candy, acting and great story, and they've created not only a solid film, but a really phenomenal one. The plot took unexpected yet appropriate twists that pushed the plot and my emotions along, and I didn't see the events of the last act coming at all. But it all felt right. This was a really really good movie.
tamanes I liked this flick, because of good acting and originality. However, I think there's a lack of logics. I wouldn't qualify it as a "Realistic" scene. Although now (2018) I fear some aspects seem pretty much so, currently the problems are generally caused by over population, in an exploding way, not under population. If the scenery would be reality that a problem of massive infertility would occurs (sad sad sad the faith of newborn Dylan at the end, who will statistically have to survive 18 years lonely, at the end of her life, although I cannot imagine she is really the only one; if she is born, others must have been born, maybe rarely depending on the unknown cause of infertility, but still), I would guess European governments would enthusiastically welcome immigrants, to deal with their old grey people worries, not lock up immigrants.
amyz214 You know that gut-wrenching, emotionally displaced feeling you get after watching the Schindler's list? That was how I felt after finishing the movie. Just silent... and heavy hearted....I first came across this movie when i heard it was similar to one of my favorite video games, The Last of Us. Being a huge fan, I decided to give this movie a shot. And wow, did it blow my mindThe dichotomy the movie draws between darkness and light is astounding. The film leaves you so disgusted with humanity, as people fight and scramble for survival in often brutal and inhumane ways, yet leaves you feeling hopeful for the main characters and for society. How the film balances hope and hopelessness is incredible. It is a must watch!
