jimakros i laughed so much with this movie that i haven't laughed in a while. The reason is i don't find most modern actors funny,i think its not their fault its just that these times are not funny.Reynolds is from another era of different people ,he was a guy who knew what fun is supposed to be,in those days when he was king of Hollywood it was easier to have fun.As a movie star he never took himself seriously and that was the secret of his appeal. He was too good-looking,had too many women and too much success. In this movie he plays a guy who is a has-been,an older guy who still chases women and tries to make a fast score.Considering at one point some years back Reynolds was almost broke himself, this character is as close as you can get to the real Burt or at least the Burt persona. Burt plays this role knowing perfectly well thats how most people perceive him.He also has some of his friends do walk ons, there's a hilarious bit with Gary Busey. If you ever laughed with Reynolds and his particular humor, you'll enjoy this silly movie. If his style leaves you cold ,forget about this movie.I have always enjoyed Burt even in his older silly movies like Cannonball and such,so i also enjoyed this. In,fact i think he is funnier in this role making fun of his persona than he was in some of his hits.Definitely a silly movie but Reynolds is funny in it.
youngsta' unknown A 3.7 you guys gotta ease up a little this movie wasn't that bad. It did have some stupidness 2 it but there was sense involved in it.. I would just like to say all in all i thought it was a pretty good movie and people need to give it a chance because it is not a BAD! movie.. And also i think people now a days are just 2 focused on all the special effects of todays generation we need to get past all that and recognize a good movie cause when it all comes down 2 it this movie is it shows some of the basic everyday situations that we all experience and thats what's important in my opinion........(Have a nice day)
ssih **** Spoilers within... ****There is a point in the movie where you visibly see Burt Reynolds get the idea of taking bubble-headed strippers and making them into champion beach volleyball players. To anyone who has played any sort of volleyball, or any sport at all for that matter, this was truly the "gouge my eyes out with a fork" moment of the movie. From this point forward, we were watching all of the realism of a Muppets movie, but with far less intelligent dialog. Now while I don't follow championship volleyball at any level, I *do* know that players like Gabriella Reece play like they do thanks to a lifetime of dedication to the sport. And there was no amount of quick camera shots and stunt doubles that made this stinker vaguely believable. The "comedy" was lame and you could see the plot twists coming down Pacific Coast Highway a mile away.
saintmychal This a very smart sports comedy that brings in American obsessions, the Malibu class system, racism, sexism and celebrity culture-- but would you expect less from Albert S. Ruddy, who co-wrote the script with "Tabloid Baby" author Burt Kearns and Malibu celebrity Brett Hudson?Ruddy has two Best Picture Oscars-- for The Godfather and Million Dollar Baby-- and in fact, this is the follow-up to his latest Oscar!Great care has obviously gone into Burt Reynolds' first starring role in years. The character of Billy Cole is an extension of Paul Crew from The Longest Yard (another Ruddy production), and the rascal of Cannonball Run (Ruddy again!). Reynolds lives this part, and he interacts well with a huge ensemble cast of young hot talent.Gabrielle Reece is a wonder! An Amazon beauty with great comic timing. Angie Everhart gives it her all as a stripper who's seen it all-- until she sees Billy's latest idea. And Paul Rodriguez plays a phony "Chinaman" because "In Malibu, if you're Mexican, you're a gardener, but if you're Asian, you're a landscape artist." They will be writing college dissertations on this one. There's a lot to this movie-- and Gary Busey, too! And it starts with a script that almost directs itself. This one goes on the cool sports movie shelf, next to North Dallas Forty, Hooisers, Bull Durham and Blue Crush!
