I made the mistake of watching this movie a few years ago, and I felt I had to write this review to state that even this may be a flattering film for Christian people, but as a feature film, this is a bad one. The filmmaking is shameful, made by a guy who seems to only have seen bad films. The story may be interesting, but the shots, the acting, the music, the editing... Everything is cheap in this film. Maybe the director was too busy directing himself instead of being in his spot watching the monitors. Definitely not a multi-task dude. I must say I laughed a lot when the main character "dances" with(out) his daughter. It's not just a campy, tacky thing that you would do alone by yourself when no one's watching and make sure to not show it to the world - It's also they way it is actually shot. Do yourself a favour and avoid this film. If you believe in a deity, go to the church instead and do your share of good deeds. If you like watching good films, watch others, there are a bunch of them, believe me. I reckon the effort, but they should have got a higher budget to hire a better director, a better cast and a better crew. I only recommend this movie if you want to know how a bad film looks like, whether it's Christian-themed or not. Nobody is going to remember this film after a few years.

Are these characters even human? They're so Christianly perfect it's impossible to relate to them. Apart from having no clear protagonist this movies gives us four perfect characters that could pretty much apply for Jesus. As a Christian I am challenged to stay true to my faith everyday. That's what makes it stronger in me. There is no internal conflict in these guys are inhumanly stalwart. You don't see them be tempted, and overcome these temptations. Even the guy that turns to the dark side is automatically evil, it's totally out of character. How can we be expected to be moved by a movie when it's characters are perfect cardboard cut-outs that we cannot relate to?

The first 10 minutes I really enjoyed, but it all went down hill from there. This was the first Kendrick Brothers film I have seen, I didn't know what I was getting myself into. It slyly passed itself as a regular run-of-the- mill drama but in all reality it is nothing more than a Christian movie...too preachy and predictable. The acting and screenplay wasn't the biggest problem I had. Let me first say again the car jacking in the beginning was fantastic, but after that, the acting was too stiff and forced, robotic like. Secondly, how stereotypical for their Mexican- American friend to be a poor construction worker with a thick Spanglish accent. And also that youths are bad because they don't have fathers...plenty of "thugs" had fathers, get over yourselves. Third, from what I understand of Christianity, the Christian god is not a genie, the film (along with other Kendrick Brothers I've seen after this) portrays their god like such: "If I pray, God will give me this." No, that's not how the real world works, if you want something work for it. The movie has an unrealistic approach, right down to the dialog. Though I am not religious, I wanted to like this film for its potential, but I couldn't bring myself to liking it. You either love the message of the movie or it is nails on a chalkboard.

This film is without a doubt my favourite Christian film of all time. Its funny, sad, emotional, moving and inspiring and I would recommend it to everyone! :)With great actors and an amazing script this film is great to watch as a family or with friends. As a teenager I found it helpful and I have watched it again and again. If you haven't seen any of the other Sherwood Picture films I would highly recommend them as well.If you enjoyed New Hope(with Ben Davies!)then you will love this too (also with Ben Davies!!!!).As I said before I would recommend this to everyone and I think every teenager and father should watch it.
