Platypuschow When you go into a movie called Creepozoids you only have yourself to blame and I take full responsibility for the torment I put upon myself. This 80's sci-fi B-movie tells the story of a world torn apart by nuclear explosions where the few survivors hide from mutants and acid rain. The movie follows such a group who break into a mysterious lab and come under attack from a mysterious creature. The lack of budget devastates the movie as the generic 80's monster lives in the shadows and is hardly seen. The story is wafer thin, it all looks terrible and scream queen horror legend Linnea Quigley in all her glory couldn't even turn this around. From the awful monster, savage giant rat and weird unexplained fetus creature the thing would have worked better as a comedy, played seriously it's pitiful. The Good: They didn't make a sequelThe Bad:Monster looks terribleLack of budget clearly showsLittle to no character developmentThings I Learnt From This Movie:Every scifi monster in the 80's looked the sameAt least half the script is screamsMonster or no monster, watching a baby getting strangled with its umbilical cord is very unsettling
meddlecore Welcome to the post-apocalypse!!! Rival factions are waging chemical warfare on each other, and it has led to the creation of a deadly acid rain, which has either wiped out or mutated most of the world's population. We find ourselves following a group of adolescents, as they seek shelter from an approaching storm. They end up finding some sort of old science facility, which has been abandoned and fallen into disuse. So, they figure it's as good a place as any to hold out until the war ends and fallout passes. However, it might not be as empty as it seems...something is lurking in the shadows...and it's taking them out one-by-one...I guess that something is a Creepozoid (though, you'd only know from the title)...and given that, I'm still not entirely sure what a Creepozoid is...Though, from what I gather, it's some sort of chemically and/or genetically altered Alien-like mutant, that contains a cannibalistic baby inside it's skull- from which it is born, upon it's death. But it could also include giant man-eating rats and "infected" superhumans, whom die if they eat real food. I couldn't tell if the term was broad or specific. There is a lot of barely explicable sh*t going on in this film. So much, in fact, that i can't believe I actually managed to follow what was going on. They really leave the viewer to read into all the subtle details. The acting is pretty bad too. But the special effects are pretty rad. The baby and the monster are particularly badass. The baby totally reminds me of the zombaby from Dead Alive. And, all criticisms aside, the whole thing has a sort of Evil Dead vibe going for it...which is definitely the best part. However, for me, this one kind of straddles the border between being one of those it's-so-bad-it's-good films, and just being bad. It's about on par with something like The Boogens (ie cool monsters, but kind of sh*t in every other department), if that gives you any bearings.5 out of 10.
Aaron1375 This film to me is like another film, Rats: Night of Terror in that it is set in a kind of post apocalyptic world. It is also like, Forbidden World as the creature may be some sort of experiment gone out of control. It is also a worse film than Rats: Night of Terror...let that one sink in! This film has a very short running time, just like Forbidden World, but if you were to ask me how long it was, I would suggest it was an eternity! While Forbidden World was not the best film ever made, it did not feel long at all. This one had very bad pacing and just felt twice as long as it actually was. To be fair, there was a few good deaths in this one, some good monster effects and you get Linnea Quigley naked. Unfortunately, there are not enough good gore effects, those giant rats looked like plush toys and Linnea looks 15 pounds lighter than she was in Return of the Living Dead and that is 15 pounds she did not need to lose. This film also features a familiar ending in that it features the main protagonist battling the beast for a prolonged period of time in a warehouse type setting. I have literally watched two other films from the 80's that ended in similar fashion in The Being and Scared to Death. The story, well the Earth is going through World War III! Deserters try to survive while avoiding the military, mutant nomads and seeking shelter against the deadly acid rain! Mutant nomads they tell us, but there is not a mutant nomad to be seen within the film. Why mention something like that and not show said thing on screen? They showed us the acid rain and I will take their word about the military, but don't mention mutant nomads and then fail to deliver them! Well, a party of five deserters walk through an area before seeking shelter from the acid rain in a sort of fallout shelter. We have two girls and three guys and just like "The Breakfast Club", the poor computer nerd geek does not get paired up with one of the women. Well, things in the shelter are not as they seem as there is something lurking within. Some giant monster that you see at the beginning of the film and it likes to knock out the hero of this film repeatedly and not kill him as it does stuff for what must be none of our business as its actions are never really said.So the monster looks like your typical monster. Not great, but not bad. A bit like a more mobile version of the one from Forbidden World. They also have giant rats that as I have said, look like giant plush toys. Then they have a creepy baby monster that actually looks really good, but is not much of a threat. Watching it crawl around then attack and get thrown off really gets old. There is also a scene where one of the members goes crazy and starts attacking another character and it is almost like an Evil Dead possession. So much going on and nothing is being explained properly, but amino acids are at play! The film is not good with only a few areas that were passable. Linnea nude, good. Super skinny Linnea, not as good. Gore, pretty good. Not enough characters to kill, not so good. Monster and baby monster good and monster rat, not good at all. Pacing, horrible! It amazes me that this film was only an hour and ten minutes as it did feel like it was two hours. Watching the hero constantly get attacked and knocked out was annoying and then this is the guy who comes out on top? I would rather watch the other two films I mentioned as they are both better than this one, they leave the door open for a sequel, but sadly (being sarcastic) it was never made. Who knows? Perhaps that one would have mutant nomads in it!
lordzedd-3 First, I don't recall them saying how much time has past since the nuclear war. Second, after the nukes fly that would be it, no more. Everyone knows that a nuclear war will start and end in a matter of minutes. There would be per longed battles or front lines to desert from. So the idea of deserters from the front line of a nuclear war doesn't make any kind of sense no matter how you slice it. I mean, even "The Day After" got that right. Next, the atmosphere was like nothing, we saw no devastated buildings, no destroyed cites, not even stock-footage of a nuclear bomb test. So we nothing of the world they lived in. What was the point of creating an animal that don't need to eat, how will that help mankind even if they got the bloody thing to work? So, what was the point? All of this and to make matters even worse the characters were as likable and as interesting as dried unbuttered toast. I don't blame the cast, they did the best they could with what they had, I put the blame on this on the director and the writer which happen to be the same creep David DeCoteau. Do some freakin' research next time, jerk. I give this train wreck of a movie THE NOOSE!
