Leofwine_draca The box hails this as a Hitchcockian thriller but it's a far cry from the films of the late master. Instead, DERAILED is a half-average modern-day thriller, with a few genuinely decent twists to recommend it and a strong central performer in Clive Owen. Unfortunately it suffers from a never-ending stream of plot holes and irregularities, as well as a tacked-on Hollywood-style ending that pushes the viewer's patience a little bit too far.On the plus side, it's a well-paced film that never outstays its welcome, and it pushes the boundaries of violence into uncomfortable, sometimes startling territory. But where this film fails in comparison to something like UNFAITHFUL is the script; the characters are threadbare, and refuse to be fleshed out, and it's hard to find any sympathy for those involved. Of them all, Melissa George is perhaps the most sympathetic character – after all she wasn't responsible for anything that happened. Sadly George's character is barely seen and a latter-day confrontation with her philandering husband lacks impact as a result.Owen plays a weak and weedy character and he does a grand job – he's far more at home here than in something like KING ARTHUR. Jennifer Aniston, bless her, can't act for toffee and keeps the same devoid-of-expression face throughout the film. Vincent Cassel, typecast now as a sleazy villain, gives value for money as his criminal rapist is somebody you really love to hate. Lower down the cast, Tom Conti uncomfortably mixes with some rappers-turned-movie stars; of the two, Xzibit is halfway decent while RZA needs to go to drama school. The film strives to build suspense but it only occasionally works. The twists, when they come, are genuinely decent and of the SIXTH SENSE variety; you won't believe what you're seeing. Unfortunately things degenerate into another typical shoot-out whereas I am sure the screenwriter could have come up with a more original way to end the story. As a result, DERAILED is a nice effort to do something a bit different, but the plot holes just drag it down too much.
Davis P Derailed (2005) does in fact get better as it goes, especially towards the ending. Clive Owen and Jennifer Aniston really do have good on screen chemistry together. Jennifer Aniston really did great in her dramatic role, especially since she doesn't do very many films like this, she was tense, nervous, and even mysterious at different times, she puts her good range of acting abilities on display for all to see in Derailed. And Clive Owen is very spot on as well. The rest of the cast does a pretty good job too. The attack scene was well choreographed and well directed. The middle of the movie did go a bit too slow and stalled a little. That is really my only personal complaint, the stalling in the middle. The last half hour is very good, that's the best part hands down. The ending is great! It's surprising, and it's also very tense and edge of your seat. The reviews are very negative for this film overall and I can kind of see what they're talking about but considering the ending part, I think the review should've been higher, Because seriously the last half-hour really does make this movie. Now it's not a masterpiece and that's why I'm giving it a seven out of 10
begob Corporate incompetent even messes up having an affair, and suddenly everyone is in danger. Can a decent script ever find Jennifer Aniston? A good actress, as is Melissa George, but they're both sidelined in this story.Problem I have is this assumes the audience will root for the guy with a parasitic corporate job who's just providing for his family. No - I want to see how and why the con-artists do what they do. Much more interesting. Instead the story creates an us-and-them world, where good people live in big shiny buildings, bad people live in smelly hovels, and the hero must have his implausible way.The twist is hidden, but only in the sense that you suspected it but forgot while the story meandered on for half an hour. The run time is probably ten minutes too long, and the story really does grope for direction after the excellent opening sequences.Really good dialogue, all the actors sparking, but then too much emphasis on the hero. And on and on ... until, "I've made a horrible mistake" - why not throw that line in at the end of the first act, instead of waiting for 80 mins? That way the other characters could have pitched in to the story, instead of having brief wrap-up scenes in the end.
Desertman84 Derailed is a psychological thriller that was based on the novel of the same name by James Siegel. It stars Clive Owen, Jennifer Aniston, Vincent Cassel, Melissa George, Addison Timlin, Giancarlo Esposito, RZA and Xzibit. The film is directed by Mikael Håfström. The story is about Charles Schine, who is an advertising executive that is married to Deanna and has a young diabetic daughter whose third kidney operation has just failed. His life turns a most unexpected corner when he meets Lucinda Harris on a commuter train. Lucinda, who is also married with a daughter, keeps bumping into Charles on the train, and they strike up a friendship that soon grows into something deeper. Eventually Charles and Lucinda meet for lunch, then dinner, then check into a posh hotel, but the consequences turn out to be greater than they imagined; the dangerous criminal Philippe LaRoche breaks into the couple's hotel room, beats Charles nearly unconscious, and rapes Lucinda. The problem doesn't end there, however; LaRoche soon unveils both his certainty that the couple avoided calling the police, and more troubling is his possession of Charles' personal information. When he makes the ill-advised attempt to blackmail the couple, Charles turns to a rough-cut friend from his workplace, who offers to help out for a small commission. This movie is your typical thriller that offers nothing new.The plot is implausible and the twist can be seen way far before the movie ends.It also had miscast the leads as both are likable and unbelievable as capable of doing evil. The only good thing about it is it qualifies as a good Saturday night entertainment.
