studioAT In 'Two Weeks Notice' and especially 'Music and Lyrics' Marc Lawrence and Hugh Grant collaborated to create two above average romantic comedies. However, third time is not the charm. The issue for me with this film is that the idea of city slickers being forced to live in the country has been done many times before...and better. While there are new ideas within this film you can't help but think with the talent involved a more original idea wouldn't have been better.Full credit though to Hugh Grant and Sarah Jessica Parker for making the most of the script they were given. OK so they are playing characters that they've played many times elsewhere but it's what we know them for so are prepared to go along with it. While the film is predictable it is also mildly entertaining and well performed - you can't ask for much more than that.Grant remains the king of rom-coms and Lawrence an adapt writer/director. I look forward to their fourth collaboration.
tinyone2 If you're really looking for some mindless entertainment and you've already exhausted all other cinematic options then try some needlework, sleep, cleaning the garage, ...Hugh Grant's acting in this movie is absolutely awful. SJP's character is annoying, trying too hard to be cute and lovable. Her fake sneeze and high pitched voice adds to the pain. Her character is as dumb as dirt, but she looks like a rocket scientist compared to Hugh Grant's character. How the writer wants the viewer to believe any of these 2 individuals will be successful business people is beyond me. They are both hapless idiots. The villain also for some reason is dumb enough to point a gun at them at a rodeo! Why would you try to kill witnesses in front of a rodeo crowd? What's the point of that? Really, Mr writer!?The only reason this scores a 4, is because I felt sorry for the rest of the cast.
Tss5078 ...if you didn't consider yourself lucky! In this film, Hugh Grant is paired with Sarah Jessica Parker in perhaps the worst pairing since Vanilla Ice and Naomi Campbell in Cool As Ice. They play a fashionably separated, New York City power couple, who are forced into witness protection after witnessing a murder. These two city folks are put in the care of an elderly U.S. Marshall and his wife, in the middle of nowhere Montana. Let the fun times begin! Didn't Tim Allen and Kirstie Alley do this a decade earlier in Amish country? At least For Richer or Poorer could get a few cheap laughs here and there, but not the Morgans. The Morgans have no chemistry what-so-ever and their film is painfully slow and predictable. Hugh Grant is usually funny, but in this film, every attempt at humor is snuffed out by Sarah Jessica Parker, who has no idea what she's doing. Parker is just one of these people who was lucky enough to find her perfect role and she was amazing in it, but everything I've seen her in since Sex & The City has been awful! Did You Hear About The Morgans has been done, more than once, and if you watch this movie and can't tell what's going to happen, twenty minutes a head of time, then you haven't seen too many movies. This has got to be one of the biggest waste of money in recent Hollywood history and if you decide to watch it, then you're dumber than the casting director who thought pairing Grant and Parker was a good idea.
blanche-2 "Did You Hear About the Morgans?" is a pleasant comedy from 2009 starring Hugh Grant, Sarah Jessica Parker, Sam Elliott, and Mary Steenburgen.I had only heard dreadful things about this film. I think to have paid to see it in the movies, it would have been disappointing. Seeing it on DVD, it wasn't bad at all.Parker and Grant are a New York City couple who are separated, mainly due to the fact that Mr. Morgan slept with somebody else while married. However, he wants very badly to get back together; she doesn't. She's concentrating on her very successful real estate company, and she's planning to adopt a child. One night, he comes to see her at a Breast Cancer fundraiser, and as they walk out together, they witness a murder and have to go into the Witness Protection Program in Ray, Wyoming, where they stay at the home of the Wheelers (Steenburgen and Elliott). This film is completely predictable in every way possible. I have to say I found Hugh Grant funny, Steenburgen and Elliott wonderful, and Sarah Jessica Parker was fine. Elizabeth Moss of "Mad Men" has a supporting role as Meryl Morgan's assistant; she looks incredibly glamorous. The scene where Meryl calls Paul outside to look at the stars brought back something that happens every time I'm out of a city - it's astounding how many there are in the sky that we don't get to see. And the end of the film, the scene at the airport -- well, that happened to my brother and my sister-in-law, so I have to say I loved that.Cute comedy, not a disaster by any means. Filmed in New Mexico, there was some lovely scenery.
