Synopsis

Nina, an art dealer, has her weekly massage appointment and is surprised to find out her usual masseur, Douglas, has sent a replacement named Fitch. The pair develop an easy rapport during the session, with talk about past relationships. As Nina lies topless on the massage table, Fitch also takes time to explain various massage techniques, including those used by Hopi medicine men.

Reviews

leoperu Having read some IMDb reviews before I got my hands on the film itself, I was agreeably surprised watching it. In the canon of the director whose early works I admire, it definitely resides somewhere close to the bottom - but Roeg is always interesting, even at his lowest. Though the Australian DVD has no subtitles (which is always bad news for me because - as the reader of this already knows - my knowledge of English is quite limited), I was not bored for the most of the movie, and I believe that it has important things to say about life not only of rich Americans. A haiku ("Suddenly you light // and as suddenly go dark // fellow firefly") inserted (almost literally) between Mimi Rogers' breasts shouldn't be underestimated. Rogers is a gorgeous piece of a woman but the film really is not about her, or her breasts, or philosophical/mystical reflections - it's about human relations and mutual using/misusing in pursuit of happiness, self-fulfillment,etc., seen by Roeg under slightly satirical angle. (From this point of view, which I'm not sure of, the otherwise likable ending was a bit disappointing, tending to follow a rather sentimental line.)If I would be asked to recommend any of my colleagues' reviews, it would be dnjir' s.
risingsap I can't really remember much of what this film was supposed to be about, some sort of philosophical ramblings delivered whilst a bloke massages a woman. Who cares? The fact is, you get to see a lot of the glorious Mimi Rogers and her awesome breasts and magnificent buttocks. If that makes me sound like a sad pervert, so be it. To be honest the rest of the film sent me to sleep. How is it that I have to drag myself to work very day and Bryan Brown gets to oil Mimi Rogers up for a living? Okay, so he has some acting talent - not a lot mind you - and I have none, but it's still not fair. In my opinion his finest hour was not his version of Hamlet at the Old Vic but keeping his pants under control during this shoot.... I certainly take my hat off to him for that.
mifunesamurai An interesting TV movie from Roeg who uses his dream like camera zooms and flashbacks to great advantage in the restriction of one major location. Brown gives one of his best performance in a role that you would never have cast him in.
taysha1128 The genre of B-Movies shines in this Showtime Original. Mimi (Rogers, ex-Mrs. Cruise) and Bryan (Brown) shine in this drama about a massage and reveals alot more than skin.Nina is an art dealer with a 'point-of-view' ... Fitch is a masseuse with ideas of his own; heads clash and thoughts mingle as Nina's weekly massage takes on a whole new meaning.
