djderka Girl Walks Into a Bar seems like it wants to be Crash, but in a bar and deals with inter-connective stories about bar denizens who walk in and imbibe their favorite drink. However, this movie tries to be clever with some so-so banter, but ultimately falls flat as a beer that has been sitting on a 'set designed' bar for two days.If you want a 'bar' movie, try Albino Alligator, which is far superior and a lot more interesting. Or even Palmetto. It seems the director decided to make an 'quippy intelligent dialog' movie so as to score some very hot babes that were thinking, 'hey no action so this must be a cool movie"...NOT. Well.."I'll just show off some skin".There were some interesting dialog lines, but I forgot what they were, but I did snicker tho at the line. Certainly nothing up to the quality of "You do know how to whistle don't you? You just put your lips together and blow". But then Gutierrez is no Julius Epstein or Billy Wilder. It is worth watching for the chick factor. But if you ain't Ionesco or Wilder or even Tarantino better be careful what you are writing without action and thin plots of 'connectivity'. Rosario Dawson is totally hot in this flick.Wait...Bulletin..this could have been a satire or parody of bar movies. Then, well, it still didn't work. If you want parodies check out the Scary Movie series and Airplane I and II. If is free though, on Retro TV or HBO, you might check it out. I enjoyed parts of the movie.
le moi I actually liked the movie.A lot.It is definitely not the best movie ever. But it is a real pleasure to watch and to observe and to listen. It's a bit Pulp Fiction without the gore. A very happy end. So if that is not for you - the movie isn't either.Besides that, I agree with the other people, that the last dancing scene is lovely and feel-good all around. And guess whose butt is the nicest :)Thanks
jotix100 The classic start of many a joke serves as an able introduction for this film, conceived and directed by Sebastian Gutierrez. Shot in different bars in the Los Angeles area, the film has a whimsical feeling as characters move in and out of the different vignettes that tell a story in an original fashion. Red is the color that predominates the decoration in most of these bars.Carla Gugino, who has worked with the director before, is Emit, basically the main character in the story. She a former police woman who shows up at the start of the film to talk to a despondent dentist who wants to have his wife killed. The agreed price is not exactly what the men had in mind, but he promises to get it. In the bar Emit meets a young man who proceeds to steal her wallet and her tape recorder. What follows is Emit's voyage through about a dozen bars trying to get her belongings, but in the process, she discovers a few quirky characters with bizarre stories of their own. There is a hilarious sequence involving a nude ping pong club where the dentist's wife has been going to see the man she has fallen for. The film ends with Emit and some new made friends dancing. The cast is excellent. Carla Gugino excels as Emit. Veteran Robert Forster shows up as a man who has been released that day from prison. Emmanuel Chriqui is a pole dancer in a stripper bar. Danny Devito has a small part as a criminal who will lend the dentist the money. Rosario Dawson, Josh Harnett, Amber Valetta, Zachary Quinto and the rest of the supporting players do a good job for Mr. Gutierrez.
horrorshowmovie "Girl Walks Into a Bar" is made up of a bunch of connected scenes, each taking place in a different bar. These scenes are heavily dialog-driven (sometimes with internal dialog). Some of them work, some don't. Most of the dialog is clever, well-written, and delivered by good actors. It's unrealistic and fast paced, with no time between a line and the response to that line. This is good entertainment, but if you get bored by dialog you'll get bored fast--there's no action here. There's a sense throughout the movie that you're watching a long, fast paced joke. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but you start to wonder when the punchline is going to show up, which can be distracting.Good movie overall, there's a lot of talent involved.
