Predrag Sometimes a movie comes out that takes your breath away. This is such a movie, the cast are excellent, Bridges and Spacey scenes alone are worth the price. The visuals with light is mesmerizing, Iain Softly the director did a wonderful job, especially with the lighting, casting and choice of composer for the music. Edward Shearmuir is a great composer. His music blends so well with the abstract of the story line, intensifies at the appropriate tense scenes and just does the job. The story is very cleverly crafted to keep the viewer guessing right until the end and, even then, no definitive answer is given. However I would like to think there are enough clues and signs as the tale unfolds to point to the more extraordinary possibility as being the case. At the end of the day, if aliens really did travel to our planet from great distances, they could only do so by means we cannot even begin to comprehend. Once here, they are more likely to take form or a host which allows them to exist among us, than arrive in V style spaceships. There is a lot to learn from this film (which, although not as detailed as the book, is better that the book for mystery and realism). I loved this film from the start (even the music is excellent); it is a slow, unfolding mystery that manages to install different emotions and feelings within the audience. You don't have to like Sci-Fi to enjoy this film - there is something for everyone in it, and a lot to learn and think about. What we do in life, how we treat people and how we live our lives is the central theme for me. If someone is mad, does that make them less of a person? Does science, medical test and medication have all the answers? Happiness is a road, it is happening now, trap the spark and hold it there, you won't be disappointed. This provoking film is one that will stay with you for a long time after seeing it and is even better the second time.Overall rating: 9 out of 10.
Jasraj Rajkhokar This movie.. man.. it takes you away to another place altogether. I don't usually write reviews, but i had to write for this wonderful movie. It is unlikely that you will ever see a movie like this again. The beautiful way it displays emotions and humanity, with both the lead actors acting superbly, is the reason that even after watching the movie once, i keep finding myself watching it over and over again. Kevin Spacey is one of the best actors of this generation, so is Jeff Bridges. The soundtrack is so immensely beautiful, that by solely listening to the music, you can find yourself transported to anywhere you like. It will change your outlook of life. Its underrated, sure, but as i said.. No words to express what this movie is.
Python Hyena K-Pax (2001): Dir: Iain Softley / Cast: Kevin Spacey, Jeff Bridges, Mary McCormack, Alfre Woodard, David Patrick Kelly: Kevin Spacey plays Prot who claims to be from the planet K-Pax. Title sounds more like a battery charger than a planet. Anyway, Prot is arrested at the airport when a misunderstanding occurs. Jeff Bridges plays a psychiatrist who is bewildered at Prot's unique style of thinking. Prot really believes who he is and at one point Bridges arranges a meeting with his brother-in-law who is into astronomy. Prot overwhelms them with information that he considers common knowledge on K-Pax. Eventually hypnosis is suggested where crucial information surfaces. Interesting idea lacks payoff and renders to absurdity and an ending that leaves loose ends. Directed by Iain Softley who made the much more absorbing The Wings of the Dove. Despite his best efforts, this film cannot master up a serious note and becomes a joke. Spacey with Bridges are fine actors who cannot save this film. Spacey's psycho babble is laughable at best and the overall mystery is never solved. Bridges is also reduced to a standard straight forward role. His patients are seen merely as fillers. Mary McCormack is flat as Bridges's wife. Routine and often frustrating mind screw that uses its subject matter as a ploy to jerk us around. It is very manipulating in that it answers nothing. Score: 2 / 10
nagsaptarshi I don't know. Just, just I don't know if it is the best. There have been plenty.E.T, Contact, even Cameron's Aliens are some of the best.Forget about the planet of X,Y,Z.Till.Till the time I watched it...It is devoid of some gun power, if you are into that thing for an alien movie. Its devoid of scenes where a giant alien is hovering over L.A and the US Air force is trying to bring it down. You are not going to find a skimpily clad fallen angel here. But what you are going to have is worth of a lifetime. An alien.Pun intended. An alien who is going back to his own planet. And before that he needs to finish a Herculean task of changing human psychology of how you take your things.May be a doctor- patient,a wife-husband, a son-father or may be even inter-inmates- relationship - this film cleverly did not distinguish any human distinctions or any boundaries just the way our Prot did not know about any relation, families or even boundaries back home. There are no thrilling stunts, there are no aerial adventures, still it gets you clung to to your seat while you watch it just because it remained correct in one thing-there is still time to rectify the human errs, there is still scopes to make amends for the follies we make in our daily lives. We do not get to see what the people of K-Pax are like, but we realize what magic can human emotions do.Do we really need to be reminded of what the protagonists are capable of? Haven't we watched the American Beauty or the Crazy Heart? We know by now what Kevin Spacey or Jeff Bridges can deliver.Something unearthly beautiful when their skills are so beautifully portrayed on screen. And if those merge? Bingo...So here we go.See the fire powers together in the same frame while you hail Mr.Iain Softley for making this brilliant movie.Emotional, power packed,humane- K-PAX is an unforgettable experience of a lifetime...
