Ole Sandbaek Joergensen The title is not misleading, but it is not telling anything about the story either. For what it is, it works well, pure action, nice settings, based on true events I don't know (not confirmed, since it is classified), but still a good action movie.Killer elite might be putting it over the top, it is a film about assassins or killers for hire and how they help each other or try to if something goes wrong, even though they properly shouldn't. The always hard hitting Jason Statham is the main person in this and he gets accompanied by other big names such as Robert De Niro, Clive Owen and Dominic Purcell. They actually form a good team and are all bad-asses, but off course Jason is the most bad-ass and the most kind hearted also, so he can't just stay away when his mentor is captured, he has to help out and that means getting back in business. As always with Jason Statham, there is action and fighting for every penny's worth, it is entertaining and a lot is going on, but I would classify it as action entertainment like all the rest, there is nothing really special about it.
ma-cortes Stirring as well as non-stop action movie , being allegedly based on facts , though the SAS even went on the record to disown both writer Fiennes and his book . After a brilliantly exciting opening in a thrilling terrorist action executed by Danny (Jason Statham) his mentor named Hunter (Robert De Niro , he is the only American born actor in this film) is taken captive by a disgraced Arab sheik, then the killer-for-hire is forced into action . His assignment : kill three members of Britain's elite Special Air Service responsible for the death of his sons . As it concentrates on the painful vendetta proceeded by an Arab oil magnate , as he kidnaps Hunter and coerces to Danny his search for revenge . Covering the globe from Australia to Paris, London and the Middle East, Danny helped by Davies (Dominic Purcell), and Meier (Aden Young) pull off his relentless mission to free their colleague who is being held captive . This moving picture contains thrills , unstoppable action , betrayal , fighting , car pursuits and lots of deaths , as it has a great body count : 21 . There are echoes here of many other action movies and behind the deceits , plot twists and manipulation is essentially a simple yarn . This is a thrilling picture in which our main starring , Jason Statham , is plunged into a highly dangerous game of vendetta and deception - where things are not always what they appear to be . The film is built around the internal secret services and SAS which sidelines in dirty work that ever the CIA won't touch . The flick contemplates the old themes of trust , friendship , vengeance , treason , cold violence and humiliation . The set pieces such as car chases , impressive as well as violent fights and a roof chases including bounds and leaps are all magnificent , as are so many secondary scenes . Interesting screenplay by Matt Sherring plenty of twists and turns , being inspired by the book "The Feather Men" written by Sir Ranulph Fiennes, this was an English adventurer, polar explorer and former SAS man is the author of The Feather Men, the novel from which this film is adapted . Although he has often claimed the novel was a true story, the families of the real dead SAS men named in the novel who died on SAS exercises and the SAS themselves publicly attacked it as sick exploitation and complete fiction . As mentioned above, all the families and the British special forces denied they had been consulted or involved in any way with the book . The main cast is pretty good such as Jason Statham , Clive Owen , Yvonne Strahovski and Robert De Niro . Though the main starring results to be Jason Statham who from Transporter (2002) he already had a background in martial arts which enabled him to perform his own fight sequences , he followed in several similar roles as a two-fisted hunk in Charles Bronson ink such as War , Crank , The mechanic , Safe , Parker , Blitz , Hummingbird , Homefront , Wild card among others . Support cast is frankly well such as Dominic Purcell, Ben Mendelsohn, Anden Young , Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje , Nick Tate , Bille Brown, Stewart Morritt, and Grant Bowler . Atmospheric and appropriate musical score by Reinhold Heil and Johnny Klimek . Colorful and adequate cinematography by Simon Duggan . The motion picture was professionally directed by Gary McKendry , though has ups and downs . Rating : 6 . Acceptable and passable . Not very good , but enough to be going on with .
Johan Dondokambey The movie presents a really nice story that nicely populates the entire movie's two hour duration. The focus shift from the hunter into becoming the hunted makes the movie feel dense story-wise. The added romance angle also feels just enough, without being overburdening or looking forceful. The action sequences real do justice to the big names of the cast included and the weight of the story's background base. The action build up sequences contains enough thrill and suspense to make the real action scenes top them as climactic move. The acting overall is nicely as what is expected from such a movie. Jason Statham played his role very well, reprising his all to comfortable character he built on all those action movies. Clive Owen stand as a worthy opponent story-wise and action-wise to Statham, adding the good sentiment for this movie even more. Even Robert De Niro played well with the not so significant action scenes.
bowmanblue Killer Elite stars three heavyweight performers - Robert DeNiro (nuff said), Jason Statham, Clive Owen and a three inch hair caterpillar who balances delightfully on Clive Owen's upper lip throughout every last shootout.Statham is an ex mercenary whose mentor, DeNiro, gets kidnapped, forcing poor Jason out of his Down Under hideaway to rescue him while pursued by Clive Owen and the caterpillar.I found this an odd film, not the plot, the acting, or the shootouts, just the retro UK feel. I'm used to seeing these sorts of films set in America and thinking nothing of it. Yet spending nearly two hours watching secret societies and black op killers driving early eighties cars through London's council estates just didn't seem real to me (like getting caught up in international spy rings happens to me every day).Killer Elite kind of takes everything that's good about the four leads: Statham's 'hard man' action scenes, DeNiro's lovable gangster persona (okay, so he's a mercenary in this, but, seriously, he could be straight off the set of Goodfellas), Clive Owen's suave should-have-been-James-Bond style and the caterpillar's fuzziness in the face of danger. Then the movie blends all of these together, even claiming that it's all based on true events (or a book at least claiming it was all real). If you like your action 'old school' and 'rough and ready,' you'll probably like Killer Elite. Dare I say it, it's probably 'lads only?' It's hardly a 'chick click,' although some ladies may manage to sit through it based on Statham's arms, Owen's gaze and the caterpillar's strokability.Solid and better than average, but, ultimately, nothing new.
