PrairieCal If you enjoy family westerns, chances are you'll love this movie. The scenery and acting are great and the story totally engaging.Although not as great as Louis L'Amour's novel, this is a wonderful family western. I'm not sure why Hollywood thinks they must "improve" on a novel in transferring it to film. Perhaps sometimes they feel a story needs more human interest ... or sometimes the story changes they make could be due to saving money. In any event it's very rare to find a film version that lives up to it's origins. Nevertheless this is a wonderful movie both western fans and families alike will enjoy.Although filmed in Utah, both the film and the book take place in Wyoming Territory as the repeated references to Fort Bridger testify. It is well worth watching and will be enjoyed by many. I found this on Youtube and downloaded it free. The sound and picture quality weren't bad at all.
charleswayneward I am a huge Louis L'Amour fan. I love the books that have been made into movies. Almost all of them because a few stories have been changed too much in my opinion. I like it when the movie is going by the book. Down the Long Hills isn't one of those movies. The book is better. In- case you haven't read it, the Indian isn't a nice guy. He doesn't give the horse back. In fact, he gets killed. I found the movie on DVD.WARNING: The movie is copied from video to DVD. The person that transferred it to DVD only put the sound on one side. You will not be getting sound on both speakers but only one. The one and only web sight that I found the movie on is http://www.ioffer.com/i/107519135? from_login=1The best Louis L'Amour movies to watch are HONDO, CONAGHER, THE SACKETTS, THE SHADOW RIDERS, THE QUICK & THE DEAD, CROSSFIRE TRAIL,THE MAN CALLED NOON, SHAUGHNESSY, THE IRON MARSHALL, & HOW THE WEST WAS WON.Wayne Ward
mike_mcclellan I love this movie. I (my parents) have an old VHS recording of it off of the Disney Chanel. I love watching it because it has all the old TV commercials which are hilarious. I want to get it digitized so I can watch it 100s of more times. Its a classics in our home. I watched this movie almost every Sunday growing up. One of the best westerns of all times. Especially for kids and family. No vulgarities, no lewd behaviors. The story line is great. The actors are good. Parts of it will even have you on the edge of your seats.
jo7paso what a great family movie. It had the adventure the excitement of being hunted by wild indians who want the horse and of course the bad guys . The part about the grizzly bear, and the long journey to meet up with his father.
