William-of-Baskerville I really like fairy tales, always have. They do have a deep, rich, connection to ancient culture and history, usually European. Most also have embedded moral teachings, have mythical elements that convey truths beneath a surface of fantasy embellishments. I can really enjoy movies that are based on fairy tales, even if these make adaptations to the original story. There are several splendid examples, some others are less successful. This movie however succeeds to distort the original well-known story in so many ways, that I could only watch in horror how the story was changed in its many details, such that - although the original story is somewhat recognizable - all elements that make the story 'feel' right are replaced by awful Hollywood/Bollywood (!) 'improvements'. The result: an Americanised story with replacement 'modern' themes (racial diversity, really?!) that is hardly watchable at all; I really needed to stop watching, I couldn't endure it any longer. Think guano-covered Radagast in 'The Hobbit', but then worse, times ten. Yuk! I feel violated. Keep your dirty claws of such a pure story!
Kirpianuscus too criticize it is very easy. Lily Collins is far to be the perfect choice for Snow White, Julia Roberts gives a too strange character. Nathan Lane is the only OK. other actor was the better choice for the Prince. the great problem is to analyse too serious each aspect of movie and ignore its humor. because , against expectations, it is a comedy. not the best but charming and real comfortable. its target - a large public. its purpose - not to propose a parody but another manner to discover a classic fairy tale. and the result is far to be bad. the costumes, the evil queen who is only a poor woman in a delicate period. Snow White who is only a child who becomes the brave woman, the prince who has not the chance to be more than himself, the costumes, songs and adventures, all as ideal package for a lovely gift. for a year in which Snow White was disputed by two adaptations, Mirror Mirror propose a nice way to discover the old fairy tale in a colorful and real nice manner.
dilip paul It was a good movie for fun. I wonder why so many people do not seem to like it. A perfect film for watch with family and children. The comedy, songs and dancing are very good. I even love the last song.Julia Roberts was very good in her role and the rest of the cast are okay. I very much like Nathan Lane performance. Lily Collins was looking very beautiful in her dresses. The film use some new elements apart from the Disney's classical fairy tale. It also have some twist. I must say it is better than the same year film Snow White and The Huntsman(2012).I give This film 8 out of 10.So you can watch this for fun that's all I can say.
Neddy Merrill Between animated versions, live action version, takeoffs, homages, television show, etc. of the classic Grim fairy tale it is entirely possible you've seen this version before and have just lost track. An A-list celebrity stars as the protagonist despite being the bad guy but this isn't "Maleficient". That is a separate movie, the difference being that movie involves a re-contextualization so that we see things from the antagonist's perspective although that movie isn't "Wicked". That was musical based on "The Wizard of Oz" presumably the original not the remake with James DiFranco. Basically, Hollywood is so out of ideas that it's becoming difficult to keep track and maybe you should just watch it even though you may or may not have already seen it. See enough current titles and you've seen every plot ever used in the last 10 years anyway. In short, entertaining if a whole lot derivative.
