mmcgee282 I saw this at the theater back in 2009,but I recently saw it again in Blu-ray 3d.This was actually shot in Native 3D and inside a coal miners tunnel. It was difficult for the crew to set the lighting and they couldn't move any of the wall around to make bigger space and the actor had to be careful about the low ceiling. The production used a lot of life size dolls and doll parts for the gory affect of the Victim of the coal mining murder. There was on gory sequence ,where the alleged coal miner murder pick axes the jaw of Tom Atkins, portraying a retired sheriff, and pulls it clean out .This was done by a fake head with a removable jaw.The writer of this film played a small part as a truck driver who just dumped his girl friend is surprised by a pick on his head by the coal mining murder. This was done with a fake head with a life size doll body. This movie has a soap opera tale.Tom played by Jensen Ackles is in love with Sarah, played by Jaime King, but, so is Axel Palmer. The very sick coal miner breaks from the mental hospital chopping everyone up in sight with his mining pick. This coal miner show up the old shaft ,where the teenagers show up for fun and he chops everyone there ,except for Sarah.Tom and Axel. They survived it .The sheriff kills the coal miner murderer.Tom leaves the town.Sarah feels she has no choice ,but, to marry Axel.Tom comes back to attempted to sell his father coal mining company, opposed by Ben Foley ,portrayed by Kevin Tighe. This Time Axel is the sheriff and is having an affair with Irene, played by Betsy Sue,who work with Sarah at the grocery store. When Ben comes back all of a sudden the murders start .everyone thinks that the original coal minor murdered never got killed, but, it's some one else who is doing it.Wonder who?Was originally on red ,blue3d DVD and Blu-ray.Later it was put on Polaroid Blu-Ray.Entertaining.12/2817
ironhorse_iv Much like in the original 1981 Canadian slasher film of the same name; this 2009 American 3D remake centered, around murders committed, near Valentine's Day, perpetuated by a psychopath in a miner's outfit. However, while this movie directed by Patrick Lussier seem like it was trying its own ideas, much the outline was just recycle sequences from the first movie. After all, the movie starts out the same with the methane gas explosion, but instead of having the psychopath blame the supervisors for abandoning them in the mine for a Valentine Day party; in the remake, they choose to have the miner go after the owner's son, Tom Hanniger (Jensen Ackles) for forgetting to vent the methane lines. Though a deleted scene does reveal, the killer was trapped while a Valentine's Day dance was being held. Still, because of this change, the focus on the gimmick of the killer sending real-life bloody hearts to his victims seems a bit, out of the blue. Why? Because, when I now, think about it, this remake barely has anything to do with Valentine Day, besides the triangle love story between Tom's best friend Axel Palmer (Kerr Smith), Axel's wife/ Tom's ex-girlfriend, Sarah (Jamie King) and himself. For the most part, the killer just killed random people that has nothing with the main plot, such as the pointless murderous rampage at the motel in the middle or the hospital in the beginning. Another problem with this movie is the awkward structure, it has. Its starts off in 1997, with too quick, over exposition newspaper clipping of the killer being trapped, that does give enough information to explain, why the miner acts the way, he does. Then, the film cut to a year later, with the killer, somehow waking up from his coma in the hospital, and having the strength to goes on a murderous rampage at a miner party that shouldn't had been there, and then, finally ten years later in 2008, when the ageless, Tom returns to reclaim his father's mine and confronting his friends who abandoned him in the mine with the killer. It's all over the place. Without spoiling the movie, too much, the movie is full of plot-holes, such as the grocery store scene and how the sheriff know about the killer being in the house, even the plot twist toward the end, doesn't make a lick of sense, when you think about it. After all, what ever happen to the miner's body in the end!? Another problem with this movie is the choice of acting. Everybody was dry and too serious. There was hardly any wit or charm. It's sad, because one of the actors, is normally enjoyable. After all, he come from a TV Show 'Supernatural' that had an episode (Season 5, 14th episode) that had the same title of this movie, and a similar plot. So, it was possible to make this movie, fun to watch. Instead, everybody felt mostly uniformly unsavory, obnoxious and unsympathetic. Because of this, I really wouldn't care, about their relationship or the character's well-beings. It really took me, out of the movie. Another thing that sicken me, was the overused of the 3D. There was so many images, being thrown in your face that it becomes deadening overkill. It gave me, a headache like the flashing news opening. Clearly, somebody was trying to rip-off, the Daily Prophet. It really doesn't fit in this type of a world. If that wasn't bad, enough. The CGI gore effects were also really bad. It's sad, because the original had some of the best visual effects, at the time. I really couldn't get behind the film, due to how cheap and fake, it look. Another thing that was jarring, was the overused of full-frontal nudity that for the most part, wasn't needed. It was very gimmicky. It must had been very uncomfortable for actress Betsy Rue as the character, Irene to bare it all. It really felt that she got exploited by writers, Todd Farmer and Zane Smith. Even the studio and producers felt that the gore and nudity might had gone too far, as they cut the film from 101 min to 94 mins for some countries like Australia. Then, there was the fact that the movie was going to be released on Friday, February 13, 2009. However, release date was pushed up three weekends to January 23, 2009 so that this film would not have to compete with Friday the 13th remake, a film with a much bigger name. Overall: while the movie was still a success at the box office. I really don't get, why some people like this movie, over the original, because it's bad. For me, it's not worth digging for. Its cheap thrills that really lack imagination. I really hate it. This movie will not get any love, from me.
ivo-cobra8 My Bloody Valentine 3D (2009) is very underrated horror slasher flick and a remake of the classic original horror film My Bloody Valentine (1981) with the same name. I love this film, this slasher horror film is very bashed from fans and its critics! I have enjoyed this movie very much more than other horror remake Friday the 13th! Before I review this film I want to explain why this horror film grow on me and why I love it so much. In the fall 2009 I saw on TV Supernatural (2005) horror TV series it was the third season on TV, after finishing watching episodes 1 and 2, the series become one of my all time favorite TV shows. I was hooked up on that show after I finished season 3 on TV, I downloaded Season 1 and 2 on my computer and I watch them from the beginning till the end. I loved it, in 2010 I finished seasons 4 and 5. I loved both of the actors who portrayed the Winchester boys and I was interested in their filmography and I noticed both of the actors in the same year of 2009 were playing in a horror slasher remakes the lead protagonists. Jensen Ackles tried with this film My Blood Valentine playing Tom J. Hanniger the main protagonist. While Jared Padalecki tried his portrayal the protagonist Clay Miller in Friday the 13th (2009). I must say both of the actors did a great job in each horror slasher remake movie! I watched both of the movies separately and I loved them. I love Jensen Ackles and I love Jared Padalecki! After watching the first time this film I loved it immediately. I don't care what anyone says I love this film. I did not saw the original film before but even for a remake the bloody violent horror film did a good job on his way. I loved the twist! One of my favorite actors is in this film Tom Atkins (The Fog, Maniac Cop), gosh I loved him in Maniac Cop, the second time my favorite actor dies in the horror genre slasher film! Jansen Ackles didn't die because a lot of us Jansen Ackles fans did not want to see him die. I am happy that director did not killed of his character. It was GREAT to see a horror movie that is not shy about getting gory and violent and nude... and that just has a damn good time with itself, which makes it all that much more fun to watch. Patrick Lussier did a great job as director and editor in this film. All credits goes to him for making such an awesome horror slasher flick. They even did not copy the original film, but making their own story with the different twist on the end. The remake still makes a nice effort to remake a classic horror tale that is worth at least a viewing by any horror fan. The real star of this movie is the 3D effect and while I was skeptical I found this "gimmick" to be much better then I expected on home video. This film kept me on the edge of my seat as I watched the victims get "sliced and diced! This movie earns the title My Blood Valentine because right of the back you got blood and gore everywhere. The original title My Blood Valentine is barely any blood because it was in the 80's, so you couldn't get away with stuff like that. In the 80's where everybody coming down on your ass about that, probably got an X rating, a bit a surprise if they dig X rating, but now days blood and gore are stereotypical to horror movies so at least the title fits to this movie! Better than it did, in the original movie. Surprisingly I am complaining a bit a little about CGI blood, when I am watching it, I can see the CGI blood. Other than that, you got a good blood squibs, pretty good! Than this remake also does what the original did it confuses you to forgot who is actually the killer, is it Axel or certainly someone else? I am not going to say his name, but I like that! They kept that in there as well, cause in the original it didn't go out the way it did. In that movie, you have to pick a choose which one was the killer, because they were two of the men there and they both had a mine suits on. I pick mine but I was wrong It was the other one and I am not going to tell who it was, if you haven't seen the original. This one kind a flips flops, so instead been the guy from the original, it's the other guy. That is cool, that was a nice little switch. Person you think it should, it is not. Another good purpose in this remake. It is a pretty decent remake and I enjoy it much more than the original! How about that? I like it more than the original wow?! The basic plot about this film is: My Bloody Valentine takes place ten years after a devastating coal mining accident when a string of gruesome murders plague a small town. My Bloody Valentine 3D is a 2009 American horror film, and a remake of the 1981 Canadian slasher film of the same name. The film was directed and edited by Patrick Lussier, and stars Jensen Ackles, Jaime King and Kerr Smith. Steve Donnachie As a long time horror fan I to have always felt that some horror films should never have remakes considering that remakes intend to not live up to the original film. Remakes end up either copying way too much or make changes to the story that just end up not being worth the watch. But when I did see My Bloody Valentine 3D I decided to give the film a watch. Considering that when I saw the DVD in stores I suddenly remembered the long forgotten 1981 original. I will say story wise this film managed to be refreshing. Rather then go down the same tired routine as remakes do of copying origoal films, this film actually managed to interest me with something new. While the characters were the same in a sense, the writers managed to put them in different situations. And I liked how when the backstory was explained that years later of what became of the town. In the original the town always seemed to be happy and cheery even during the knowledge of a Valentines Day killer on the lose or when they know of the killers intentions on Valentines Day or what that kiler did 10 years prior, they were all too happy over Valentines Day and that just annoyed me. In this remake the town is still effected by the terrible events of 10 years prior and I found that to be more interesting. But I also liked how they switched the fates around of Tom Hanniger and Axel Palmer. I wont ruin who the killer is in the film if you haven't seen it but your going to be in for something different when the mystery and killer are revealed. Overall the film is darker and more serious in terms of the original. But to be fair the original was from a different time era of horror films. Now today everything is constantly remade and not original anymore. But this remake I feel surpassed the original 1981 film. Because it tried to be more serious and original and not just do the same tired copying original films and doing the same routine stuff that's been done to death. You don't see remakes doing this at all.
