chris-2270 I couldn't take this movie. Maybe it's a culture barrier, but I have pretty broad taste and tolerance for many films including foreign (non U.S.) films. I had an expectation that my wife and I would both be pleased by what we saw. This was not the case and within about 40 minutes we abandoned the movie. The storytelling was poor and I quickly became confused as to what the point of the movie was. It was cheesy as some say, but that did not win me over. The production values were actually pretty high. The acting passable. But these two elements do not make a film ready for an audience. I try to avoid explaining why it is others writing in submit one favorable review after another for a movie I had to put down. If they are not paid publicists, then there's no accounting for taste, right?
nocturnallucidity An interesting and hilarious Hong Kong comedy. I expected an extremely silly and quirky horror/comedy based on the apparently mis-translated synopsis. Instead, I got a fun comedy (no horror) with twists, a full robust plot, and some really touching scenes. Clearly built on a lot of Chinese mythology, this movie makes far more sense through-and-through than most "zany" Asian movies. It slightly falls apart at the end, in desperate need of some editing, and the beginning is slow. Overall, it's a wonderful surprise, this movie is highly recommended to all.Similar Movie: Imagine Kung Fu Hustle with absolutely no kung fu. Just silliness.
niibu_yaa Being somewhat of a film aficionado, hearing the synopsis of this film should have been enough to turn me off to it. Being a fan of Sammi Cheng I hoped that it would be worth watching, regardless of how cheesy the plot seemed. Like in all of the other movies of hers I've seen to date I was not disappointed. Something about Sammi's screen presence, makes even the most ridiculous candy coated film a delight to watch. While this may not exactly be an art film, it does stand on it's own two legs, and delivers a wholly entertaining film. In genre (ROMCOM) that has more or less been killed by banality, My Left Eye See's Ghost's manages to deliver some fresh life and originality. Granted it not mind numbingly original, but original enough to make even the auteur smile.
apollo231 This movie was kind of funny but nothing to be excited about. Just don't see this movie to get scare or anything like that. I do think this is a family movie, the jokes might be a little to over play but it was something that a person will enjoy watching for only one time. Whether the movie is romantic or not, I wouldn't say it is well maybe for half of it anyway. The characters were comedic and funny but they didn't over do it either. So over all, see this if you get the chance but don't expect anything special out of it.
