Fluke_Skywalker Plot; Two men plot to steal the Declaration of Independence, which they believe has an invisible map on its back that points the way to a treasure beyond the imagination. You don't typically seek out this genre w/plausibility as a prerequisite, but even so, take that belief and suspend it before pushing play here. If you do, what you'll discover is a reasonably fun and clever adventure that's as earnest as you can get w/o crossing over into the dreaded corny territory. Making good use of treasure hunting genre conventions and freshening them up a bit by applying them to American history, National Treasure is a film worth unburying.
lisafordeay National Treasure was released in 2004 and stars Nicolas Cage,Diane Kruger and Justin Bartha and tells the tale of a man named Benjamin Franklin Gates(Cage)who specializes in finding treasure since he is a treasure hunter. But when his friend played by Sean Bean disobeys him Gates has no choice but to retrieve the treasure himself along with Abigal Gates and Justin Bartha's character as Gates found an invisible map under the declaration of independence article. But with a blast from Benjamin's past will he and his co mates find the missing treasure with the invisible map they found hidden under the declaration of independence? Overall I really enjoyed this movie. I always had a soft spot for Nicolas Cage. You could say his a guilty pleasure actor for me as the guy was great in this film. The cinematography was great and the score was very good too. Also starring Angelina Jolie's father Jon Voight and a brief cameo by Christopher Plummer from The Sound Of Music; National Treasure gets a B+
Filipe Neto This film looks like the alternative and geek version of any Indiana Jones movie, combining an exciting adventure with an absurd story based on a false historical premise: the passage of the famous "treasure of the Knights Templar" to American soil, where it was hidden by Masons, allegedly heirs of the Templars traditions and secrets. It's true that the Templars were extinguished by the Papacy at the request of the French king Philip the Fair, who arrested and killed several former knights in order to confiscate the assets of that religious order. It's also a fact that it was a very rich order, with lands, castles and armies. But to believe that these knights ever set foot in America or had secrets to leave the Masons is insane. If their intention was to conceal something or to pass some knowledge, they would probably took the most viable option: Portugal, where King Denis asked the Pope to maintain the Templars, as it was convenient to the kingdom, thus arising the Order of Christ, which survived in Portugal until modern times. There was no reason to go to America, and Masons still didn't exist. Well, let's talk about the movie now...The movie is good, it entertains the audience well, especially if we're not too attentive to the dozens of historical mistakes made by the plot, quite unrealistic. The special effects are very good and the film is visually pleasing. The characters, however, lack personality and the actors are never able to give that. Nicholas Cage is rather unconvincing in the role, never seeming to be truly an academic nor an adventurer. The romantic subplot between him and Diane Kruger is highly predictable, though it looks good in this kind of movie. In short, it's a good movie to entertain, but there's a danger that some people will think they have a true historical basis and that makes it dangerous.
chmpgnrose I enjoyed this movie a lot as it stars Nicolas Cage with not well-known actors/actresses. It is suspenseful with non-stop action and invokes U.S. History of one the most important documents of history--Declaration of the Independence and the origins of the U.S. founding fathers. The riddles, clues created by the Freemasons and Knights Templar are actually very clever to prevent the British from finding the treasure. The writers of this film are very clever to instill U.S. history with riddles and a endless series of clues leading to a treasure. Silence Dogood letters written by Benjamin Franklin kept at the Franklin Institute is also a clever method for a clue which leads to the antique spectacles. Yes, Benjamin Franklin was really a freemason. Nicolas Cage referenced famous quotes from "I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work." ― Thomas A. Edison and ..."when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.- Declaration of Independence. In truth there are 56 signers of the Declaration, NOT 55 signers as Benjamin Franklin Gates (Nicolas Cage) stated. This movie appeals for all ages and will retain audiences' attention throughout the entire film. There is no excessive foul language used, some violence. For any avid history buff, this movie will enrich your mind-- especially U.S. History. The question lies: Is there really a encrypted message embedded on the back of the Declaration of the Independence?
