One of those story adaptations that does itself justice. Almost every character here has a beard except for the main character that easily stands out not just through her looks but also with her keen observations of the wild life that's supposed to be detrimental to humans, her kind temperament and selfless courage. Right? Well, although kinda cliche... it works quite well here. Her understanding and compassion for those giant worm-bug creatures is touching, when most people would flee in fear and disgust just seeing one. It was a very good fantasy with a redeeming ending, worth of an 8 if not for it's under par graphics, but as it is an original anime movie, old and sweet like the wine, it can be forgiven.

This movie is absolutely fantastic. The animation is great. The story is great. The concept is great. I have no complaints. I would highly recommend watching this movie.

They do not make hand painted anime anymore. The digital age has destroyed true cinema. Computers make movies nowadays. This film - and indeed it is a film, not a CGI-stuffed turkey like today's so-called "animation" - is a watershed. Most importantly, it is an epic environmental masterpiece, a poem to a lost age (even though it seems set in a world of the future). The main character has been described as a kind of druid, and indeed she seems quite magical. There has never been a more perfect anime heroine.I won't blaspheme cinema history or animation art by naming the American corporate behemoth that bought the rights to sensei Miyazaki's great films. So sad - and typical of capitalist commercial society.Nausicaa would have fought tooth and claw to defeat the forces of darkness, but alas she is only a great character, not a real powerful paladin of the forest. We need films like this - and characters like her - now more than ever. Instead, we get Cameron's looming epic fail of Battle Angel, and more politically correct dross from the Mouse House.

Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind is a breathtakingly beautiful film...and I'm putting that lightly. When I first popped the CD in, I was expecting an anime fairy tale, not an awesome sci-fi flick with a heavy and still relevant environmental message. I was both wowed by the plot and the fluid animation that had a relatively cheap budget (only about $1,000,000 estimate d budget).I think this is the first Miyazaki film that really shows his impeccable talent (sorry, Totoro). This is a film I had to watch more than once to really fully understand it (and even then most Miyazaki films can still remain confusing). However, if I were to show my kid their first Miyazaki film, it would be this masterpiece. Heck, Is make this their first film to ever watch along with 'Spirited Away' to challenge their brains and show them some of the troubles in the world without frightening them. Thank you Miyazaki. You are a genius.
