sol- Three eco-terrorists plot to explode a hydroelectric dam that is adversely affecting the local fish, but carrying on afterwards as if nothing has happened proves impossible for the trio in this deliberately paced thriller. The film does not exactly explore any new or original ideas; living with the guilt of one's criminal actions is an especially common running theme in Woody's filmography and the basic plot of 'Night Moves' is near identical to 'Cassandra's Dream' - but this nevertheless remains an encapsulating experience with the slow pacing an unexpected asset. Some of the best scenes have Jesse Eisenberg simply sitting around and waiting in the aftermath of the eco-terrorism act; his friends and family carry on their daily routines behind him while he poignantly stares into the distance, almost in disbelief at the fact that nobody is coming to lock him up for his crime. Dakota Fanning is equally effective as the token member of the trio who becomes sick with guilt, however, she could have benefited from more screen time. The film may have also fared better with a less open-ended conclusion; as it is, it ends on a note so abrupt that it is absolutely jarring. Generally speaking though, this is a nifty motion picture about impulsive idealists gradually coming to second-think their passionate stances when it is tragically too late to turn back. Jeff Grace graces the film with a perfectly haunting eerie music score and as one might expect from a film with the word 'Night' in the title, all the low-lighting nighttime shots are amazingly atmospheric.
SnoopyStyle Josh (Jesse Eisenberg) and Dena (Dakota Fanning) are radical environmentalists. They buy a boat called "Night Moves". They along with troubled ex-Marine Harmon (Peter Sarsgaard) plan to bomb a dam. They buy a large quantity of fertilizer, make their bomb and deliver it on the boat. This is a slow, methodical movie. There are so many empty spaces. It's a two hour movie that could easily be squeezed in half. It's just so very slow. Everybody is doing mainly quiet acting. Some could see in it as deep emotional acting. They can read so much into their quietness. I can only read it as a lack of dialog. There are some emotional content in the second half but it's not enough.
nhmhtan00 Some complains that pacing is so slow, but I think it adds suspense and tense moments, also they creates thrills without big budget explosions and is more effective. The camera work is also like watching some Japanese movies like Blue or Departure. I prefer Wendy and Lucy over this though, but I still like this one.Its not a movie that you will want to watch over and over, because the plot is quite simple, the three main characters wants to blow up and did blow up the dam for some environmental causes but they accidentally killed someone in which they become so guilty afterward. I especially like the part when they switch the timer of the bomb and when they're about to leave then suddenly some car broke down which would witness them so they've to wait. that wait sequence sure is quite intense.
Bj Shepherd I had never heard of this film, and now I know why. There's not much I can say that's good about this movie, I thought when I picked it up and read that it was a thriller, that I'd be on the edge of my seat, but I wasn't. I think that the fact that they didn't give you enough time to get invested in the characters or give you a reason behind why they were doing what they were doing, did not help either. I felt that this movie was slow and that I just didn't feel anything for the situation they were going through. I felt like my money was wasted in the film and frankly, I haven't felt this way since I watched "get shorty." So in the end, I would have to say, if you are wanting to see a thriller, don't see this movie, because I feel that you would be greatly disappointed. And I was hoping for a lot more from Dakota fanning and Jessie eisenberg, both who are good actors in their own right, just not in this.
