Synopsis

Ren Amari is the driven inventor of a revolutionary new drug. OtherLife expands the brain's sense of time and creates virtual reality directly in the user's mind. With OtherLife, mere seconds in real life feel like hours or days of exciting adventures. As Ren and her colleagues race around the clock to launch OtherLife, the government muscles in to use the drugs as a radical solution to prison overcrowding. They will create virtual cells where criminals serve long sentences in just minutes of real time. When Ren resists, she finds herself an unwilling guinea pig trapped in a prison cell in her mind. She must escape before she descends into madness, and then regain control of OtherLife before others suffer the same fate.

teetayi Damn great movie! Had no idea what the plot was really about. Went on watching it anyway and did not regret it one bit. The storyline was both empathetic as well as nerve wrecking. Although I did guess the plot twist, I am really glad it turned out the way it did.
emuir-1 As one who thinks the Russian epic Solyaris was the best science fiction film ever made, and being an enthusiast of the Twilight Zone, the Outer Limits and currently, Black Mirror, this film was right up my alley. In short, I prefer sci fi and psychological fiction which does not fall back on hideous aliens dripping slime, or space westerns, but give the viewer something to think about and use their brains. Some posters complain the plot has been done before - but what plot from the time of the Greek dramatists has not been done before? In addition to an intelligent plot, the film is visually beautiful, especially the kaleidoscopic effects (I must see if Netlix or YouTube has some kaleidoscope relaxation videos). I could not believe that this was a low budget independent film. It has the look of a multi million dollar epic, but probably not having to shell out tens of millions for an A-lister meant that every dollar was right there on the screen.
vmmvieira I was not expecting much from the movie, but I was positively impressed. The story is very engaging, and one can relate with the main character easily. The performance could have been more intense, but if it did it would have cost another 30 to 40 minutes. The main character was very well developed, but the supporting actors required also a bit more time and intensity to make it to the right point. The plot was very good, and keep one engaged and always looking for the next turn of events. I highly recommend it, and I'll be looking for the next directors film, as this one is definitely one to keep an eye on.
solarisiko A really excellent story idea with great actors but the story development felt a bit lacking for my taste. So much undeveloped potential, especially with why her brother would "choose death" when given the drug. Also, she seems to have quite a full life even if her brother is in a coma. Cutting edge research, a hot boyfriend, yet she is so desperate to bring her brother back, this plot should be developed further so the audience can understand why she wants to use the drug to rewrite memories instead of simply creates new ones, and can be used to create conflict with motivations of other supporting characters. Also the primary antagonist should be given some motivation as to why he is so desperate to push the line with using the main female lead as a test subject.
