adonis98-743-186503 A teenager discovers he's the descendant of a Greek god and sets out on an adventure to settle an on-going battle between the gods. Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief is one of the few films that i got to see in theaters back in 2010 and to be honest i really did loved it especially the Greek Mythology and basically the whole adventure and special effects with the gods and all that. As far as perfomances go? everyone did a really good job especially Logan Lerman, Alexandria Daddario, Sean Bean, Uma Thurman and Pierce Brosnan. If you want something exactly like the book you'll hate it but on it's own is really fun although the 2nd one was better.
ionlaur I just lost 2 hours of my life watching this. Soooo bad the movie and the actors also, but i think the actors looks bad because of the movie
nargles268 Anybody who is a fan of the Percy Jackson series would be excited to watch the movies that accompany the books, but would be greatly disappointed. Chris Columbus, the director of some great movies, such as the first three Harry Potter Movies, directed this tragedy of a film.Percy Jackson and the Olympians, written by Rick Riordan, follows the adventurous life of Percy Jackson, a demigod whose father is none other than Poseidon himself. Twelve-year-old Percy was played by eighteen-year-old Logan Lerman. One of the first scenes shown is Grover Underwood, played by Brandon T. Jackson, saying, "Oh, like high school without the musical." Because a twelve-year-old would definitely be attending high school, instead of, oh I don't know, sixth grade. Played by Alexandrio Daddario, Annabeth Chase, who had blonde hair and gray eyes, a sign of being a daughter of Athena, was nowhere to be found. Instead the appearance of her hair was of burnt toast. Some other details that are somewhat vital to the story, were completely ignored. Such as the entire plot. The beginning of the movie starts off decently well, but starts to crumble when they begin their journey. Instead of going to the Underworld in an attempt to retrieve Zeus' master bolt, they were instead going to the Underworld to save Percy's dear mother. Some of the events that led up to them getting to the Underworld were accurate, but most of it was not. Throughout most of the movie, they were instructed to find pearls to escape from the Underworld once they retrieved Percy's mother, but in the books, there was absolutely nothing about finding "Persephone's pearls."Going along with the idea of Persephone, she assists Percy during his quest in someway I won't reveal for those who want to watch this unreliable movie. Although, Percy never encountered Persephone until the last book in the series, and only for a short moment. The movie ended with an intense battle between Percy and another character, which I also won't unveil, who supposedly died at the end of it. In the books, no battle took place between them, and instead of the character dying, they simply went missing, leaving Percy to perish alone.Although the plot wasn't completely on par with the books, I must admit the movie was still entertaining to watch. If someone were to watch this movie with no background knowledge of Percy Jackson whatsoever, it'd probably be a decent movie. But somewhat adequate CGI and snippets of humor, does not make up for everything. It is still insulting to die hard fans who absolutely adore this series, myself included. Those who watched the movie before reading the books, were fed bucketfuls of false information.
michaelclifford-38758 The only things from the book that were really kept here are: Percy is Poseidon's son, he is accused of stealing a lightning bolt, has a pen that turns into a sword, and goes on a quest to get it back. There were a lot of funny, important plot details that were left out here. They kept in the absolutely major plot details, yes, but it all feels to rushed and forced to be an accurate rendition of the book to the screen. The screenwriter should be ashamed. I hope that this series will be cut where it is, and maybe in a few years, they will remake the movies with actors of the correct age, and portray Riordan's work well.
