Shawn Watson The enormous Pokemon franchise got off to a pretty mediocre start with this first movie (proudly naming itself as such too), at least in English territories. Despite being one of the biggest cash cows on Earth for nearly two decades there has never been a definitive edition of this movie in English. Arriving in theatres here in the UK almost 2 full years after its debut in Japan the translation completely changes the plot to something that goes against the very nature of the Pokemon concept.Unless you were a hardcore fan of the TV show there was simply no way you could have understood what was going on and I can only imagine that there were scores of frustrated parents sitting in theatres, scratching their heads, wondering what sort of culture their sprogs were going to unleash on the world when they came of age.Evil scientists have produced a clone of Mew, dubbed MewTwo, who revolts against his creators and attempts to take over the world with his superpowers. Coincidentally, the first Mew to be born in many hundreds of years, suddenly rises out of the water and begins exploring the strange, new world he finds himself in (this is merely guesswork as absolutely none of this is explicitly explained). Ash, Misty, and Brock are lured by MewTwo to a secret island lair where he attempts to steal all of their Pokemon. By sheer luck, or bad writing, Mew is also on the island and prevents MewTwo from his global domination. The English version tries, and horribly fails, to make it hip and fashionable (by 1999 tastes) but the supervising producers obviously did not understand the franchise that they were messing with and totally flubbed it.I am sure that the Japanese dub is a better movie. The series improved after this, but it truly is a bad start.
shuna-14122 This movie represents weight of copy's life. Myu2 is copy Pokemon. Myu2 is generated by human and Myu's copy. Myu2 attempts to " counterattack " against humanity from hatred to the man who has created only in order to take advantage of the rebound and his own to the system governing the Pokemon because he betrayed the organization that made him. In this story, I know struggling of Myu2 to copy life. Finally real real Pokemon and copy Pokemon fight. The main character, Ash stopped the fight Ting himself. Due to this painful situation we can feel both of real and copy living is important. This movie teaches preciousness of life.
igoldcraftmc Okay Lets beginAround Febuary i read critics reviews of Pokemon the First Movie and saw that they thought it was boring at the same time why did i trust the critics if they said "Wild" Was "Great" ....Not so much but cricrts words and rented the movie with low expectations and once again, the critics are wrong. I found myself exited and on the edge of my seat in Joy and thrill nonstop something hard to find movies now a days but with a movies that are "Great" i cant find that Spoiler here: when the battle was in its peak for minutes i felt as if it was like the 2014 sugar bowl the Pure interesting This is one of the best movie I've seen in a while and I'm glad i saw it!-bulidernation
Owen Ogletree I loved Pokémon growing up. I stopped watching it around 2009-ish and moved on to other things. However I have recently been revisiting Pokémon and have decided to do a Pokémon movie marathon. The first in the series is definitely a good one. I'll admit there is some nostalgia-related bias here, but I enjoyed it as a whole. It does have some flaws. It is basically your typical "bad guy vows to take over the world" story and the animation has not aged well. There are also some questionable scenes. For example, Ash trying to punch Mewtwo was kind of stupid and the "pokemon tears ex machina" scene was pretty contrived. However, there is much to enjoy. The characters were as likable as ever. Mewtwo is an awesome Pokemon. Some of his powers, while outlandish, were wicked cool. You also gotta love Mew.The Pokémon battles and the battle between Mew and Mewtwo will give Pokémon fans some excitement. I also appreciated the messages that we must all live in peace and that it matters more how you live your life than why you were created.Revisiting my childhood was an absolute joy. As for the quality of the movie, I wouldn't call it great, but it was definitely very good and worth watching for Pokémon fans.RATING: B
