Pjtaylor-96-138044 'Ghostbusters (1984)' meets 'Men In Black (1997)' sounds more like the start of a half-cocked, wish-fulfilling 'what-if' slurred to a friend in-between drinks at a slightly too raucous party than the basis for a fully formed feature film and yet someone clearly managed to sell it, more than likely during a flustered and frenzied elevator pitch, as a fool-proof way of delivering exactly what modern audiences want. Ironic, really, as it not only represents the kind of shoddy studio schlock that favours CGI spectacle over character or story but also the worst elements of both its most obvious inspirations. It misses the mark in almost every area in which it was so sure it was going to succeed, making it almost satisfying that it bombed so heavily and proved that audiences were smarter than they were given credit for. Yet, there is some occasional charm, amidst the chaos of the story and the straight-up ugly visuals, and a few somewhat entertaining sequences that can be passively enjoyed if you lean into the ridiculousness of it all, with most of the flick's successes solely resting on the fact that the core cast are just charismatic enough that they can almost take the edge off the corny dialogue. Ultimately, it isn't anywhere near as bad as it could've been, but is just plain mediocre. 5/10
Mello Mai Please make a TV series out of this movie. I love this type of movies. I loved it, characters were awesome, just the whole movie I loved. I would definitely watch this if you made it into a movie series. I love the actors, the story was great. I love watching these types of movies with these half human half creature like. It reminds of Grimm. I love watching Grimm, but I also love the comedy of this movie. The first time I seen this movie I really thought it was a TV series, I was telling my family please record this because I did not want to miss any episodes, but then a couple weeks went by and then I realized it was a movie not a TV series. So like I said I would love to see this movie turn into a TV series, I can't say it enough, please make a TV series out of this movie and I would definitely watch every single episode!!!! TV series please, TV series please......
Michael O'Keefe Ready or not; you don't have to wait for it. This action comedy finds a police officer, Nick (Ryan Reynolds), beckoned back to action after recently being shot. Nick will join the R.I.P.D. (Rest In Peace Department), in hopes of finding out who really shot him. The R.I.P.D. basically hit the streets "taking out" guys who are actually dead hiding in a human body.Robert Schwentke directs this MEN IN BLACK knock-off. There is a toss-up in deciding which is better; the script or special effects. For sure this film is not boring. And redeeming is the fact that justice is dealt with. Criminals get what they deserve. No doubt about having a star-studded cast that also features: the always hilarious Jeff Bridges along with Kevin Bacon, Mary-Louise Parker, Mike O'Malley, James Hong, Marisa Miller and Stephanie Szostak.A catchy soundtrack features: Steely Dan, Marvin Gaye and The Hives.
caveredecorator i kept waiting for a laugh or even a smile or 2 but its not hard to see why this flop lost 100 million dollars. maybe some one hoping for an action adventure sci fi would like this a little. once you settle in with your popcorn you mite as well get a crossword puzzle going too, for some type of intellectual stimulation. the actors did the best they could with the script and plot they were saddled with. my favorite part of this movie was when it was over. the special effects probably took up most of the budget but there wasn't anything that special about them and they all seemed familiar from other movies in the past. car chases and morphing have all been over done long ago. the heaven can wait theme has been over done in the past also. if there is nothing else on t.v. and you can watch it for free, give this movie a try if its raining and you need some background noise to help you fall asleep. this movie may also inspire you to renew your library card.
