Python Hyena Ready to Rumble (2000): Dir: Brian Robbins / Cast: David Arquette, Scott Caan, Oliver Platt, Rose McGowan, Joe Pantoliano: Pathetic bag of trash done like a half wit school, boy report. The title really should be asking viewers if they are ready. David Arquette and Scott Caan play wrestling fanatics who worship Jimmy King. They hunt for him after he is kicked out of wrestling. They were witnesses to his title loss to Diamond Dallas Page. They learn that King is not living in a palace but in a trailer park and he has a wife and son. He is given opportunity to regain his title in a steel cage fight, which turns into a dog show. Horrible directing by Brian Robbins who must have a knack for making stupid movies. While he can be credited favourably for Varsity Blues, this film is more of the numb-founded idiocy he was shovelling out with Good Burger. Arquette and Caan turn in embarrassing performances that blow out into a climax that further sinks this into oblivious stupidity. Oliver Platt as King provides the only hint of dignity. Rose McGowan delivers a cardboard performance and only seems presented for the possibility for sex scenes. Joe Pantoliano plays the CEO and more or less a back stabber who pushes the bout between King and Page. Theme exploits actions and attitudes of obsessive wrestling fans who will not likely demonstrate the same enthusiasm that is being taunted here. Score: 4 ½ / 10
Dan Sessions When I first started watching this movie I was expecting it to be absolutely hilarious with some great wrestling thrown in. Well there was some good wrestling scenes and a few funny lines. But while watching it I found myself replying to messages checking Facebook and going off to get drinks and food with out even bothering to pause the film. It might sound like I'm just getting ready to absolutely slate this movie, but I'm not, don't get me wrong this film wasn't great but it wasn't a painful watch either. After the two best mates watch there lifelong favourite wrestler 'Jimmy King' get the crap beaten out of him during a wrestling match, they decide to go find this 'Jimmy King' and help him get the world championship belt back. This is the main story line and like I said a few good laughs are chucked in as well, but that was basically it. Something I will say though is that for some reason I couldn't bring myself to turn it off and also that I did enjoy it. This defiantly isn't a film I would recommend but not one I would say to stay clear off either, if its on TV at one point watch it but don't go and rent it and defiantly don't go out and buy it.
Mark Ashworth Don't watch if you aren't/weren't a wrestling (particularly WCW) fan.Ready To Rumble is a film which is unequalled in the Wrestling world today. A film, containing A-List Celebs and WCW is something that the WWE has never done, however Vince McMahon, the owner of WWE, and now the owner of the WCW name and Video Library, expressed his interest in getting into the Movie Business after the release of this movie. Now, with that out of the way, the actual movie is one that always makes me laugh. David Arquette takes a role on, that he and only he would pull off. I cannot see anyone else in this role, and pulling it off as funny. (Funnily enough, this movie ended up with Arquette being the WCW Heavyweight Champion for a good few weeks! Ahead of Sting, Goldberg, Steiner, Hogan...) A load of Sarchastic remarks thrown in with the wonderful world of Wrestling, as well as a kick start for movie careers for Sting, Goldberg and DDP, this is one great movie, released because the owner of WCW at the time was Ted Turner (AOL/Time Warner + Warner Home Video). Now, I know what your thinking... that the previous comments are so damning, but I think it is clear that Glacier571-3 from San Francisco isn't someone who liked WCW, and watched the film because it was a wrestling film... but to all those who watched WCW in its hey-day (1997-2001) you will love this. Its funny, even to non-wrestling fans, so rent it, if you don't want to buy it, but I bought it, and don't regret doing so! Get over to amazon.com!!!! 8/10
SquirePM Folks, ya gotta stay away from these pretentious film-schoolcreeps when you read these IMDb comments. This movie is forthe kids inside all of us, especially if we're real kids under 16 orold kids over 55.It's packed with stars, old and young, and new hot bodies that aredefinitely worth casting your eyes upon. All the good guys win, asthey so certainly should, and all the bad guys lose, as they sorichly deserve. And the silliness quotient never diminishes fromthe first breathtaking battle royal in the stop-n-rob to the grandclimax. So see it if you want to and laugh it up like a real person and don'tfeel guilty about a thing. Yeah.
