merelyaninnuendo Out Of England 2People often wonder and question Ricky Gervais's fame, is it his witty comedy? Or his knowledge? Or his writing skills? Maybe all of that and none of that. There is a genuine reasoning behind his each and every act, word, line or a joke. It's never a hustle nor wasting one's time, it's all edited out perfectly. All part of an act. Now this is the kind of writing and execution that was present in early Disney characters and cartoon that not only used to satisfy the viewers but also leaves them with a calm soothing feel that consoles about the brighter part of it. Ricky Gervais is probably the smartest and educated comedian out there that values time and quality which is clearly visible in his performance. There were some inedible jokes and profanity in it but it still never goes dark which is where Ricky shines as he narrows it down to a meaningful point and a better understanding and perspective towards the "humanness" of it. This is probably the best stand up performance that I have witnessed for even though it ticks for more than an hour, Ricky has got you where he wants and it's on the edge of the seat.
Lightseven I love this guy. He says every snarky thing that goes through our heads, only he says it out loud. Sooooo funny. Rude? Yes. True? His Noah reading, the whole fat segment, the Flying after 9/11- so bitingly, brutally honest that it is hilarious.Ricky Gervais is not only a brilliant comic but he's a brilliant human being. His inquiry into the things we lose in our peripheral vision any given day makes me also stop when seeing some incongruous item strolling past me while whistling and I find myself thinking, "Hold on a minute! Did you just do what I think you did?"He's so right, that there is no area of comedy that should not be explored. You should be able to joke about any and everything; it just depends what that joke is. Ricky entertained for an hour and throughout managed to be both outrageous and to not be cruel. Some topics may make you blush if you're sitting with a prude watching this, but that's OK,it's on HBO On Demand and you can just watch it again, alone, after the prude leaves and laugh your @@s off like you wanted to the first time.
ZCT I really enjoyed this comedy special from Ricky Gervais. He's a truly funny man, and certainly one of the best in England right now.He seemed pretty at ease with himself during the performance, and as with other such stand up routines I've seen him do, he sipped a beer (or at least something from a Foster's can throughout the show. His material was very funny in a lot of parts, but some of the material will be highly offensive to some, especially some of the sexual references. My only real criticism is that one part of his act was clearly lifted out of his recent HBO TV show, and another part I'd seen somewhere else before. Somehow that takes the edge off it a little. All in all though, if you like fairly British humor, and are not easily offended, this is something you should enjoy.
