MJB784 I enjoy a lot of psychological thrillers, and this one was really confusing. Why is the movie called Stay? What was the big twist at the end? I don't get it, it opened with him in a traffic accident on the golden gate bridge and ended there, but I don't understand the big secret that connects with the middle parts of the movie. How is Henry's father alive and playing chess blind with the psychiatrist and how did the psychiatrist save Henry and why did a lot of scenes repeat themselves? This movie was boring and had no suspense at all.
adonis98-743-186503 This movie focuses on the attempts of a psychiatrist to prevent one of his patients from committing suicide while trying to maintain his own grip on reality. Stay packs some great perfomances from it's stellar cast especially Ryan Gosling and Ewan McGregor but unfortunately the film drags alot and as interesting the story might have been the slow pacing hurts the movie and the whole "mind thriller" that tries to play with the mind of it's viewers even tho it makes sense it's just poor storytelling and i'm sorry for that. Great perfomances, stellar cast but a slow burn of a movie. (5/10)
arvinsanaei I watched the movie 8 years ago and still cant forget this movie. I watched it over 10 times and still there are details here and there that are actually WORTH be seen. I appreciate putting so many details in a movie. That means they put a lot of efforts to make the movie. Anyway, it's the main concept that is amazingly get you stunned through the whole movie which is ironically simple. 'Near death experience' is not the exact words I like to describe it with, but there are almost no other words to explain it with. It is a journey that Henry( Ryan Gosling ) is having with bunch of people standing near him(while he is dying) with a sense of guilt and looks for forgiveness basically. From the beginning of his journey, everything that is happening is a projection of what is happening around him. For example, Dr Levy is is handing Henry to Sam ( Ewan Mcgregor ) which is exactly happens in reality when Sam gets to Henry after the accident. But not everything projects as it is happening around Henry to his dream. For instance, Lila gets there and speaks with him when he is dying but we do not see them encounter with each other in the dream. The performances are great. The music is brilliantly colors the movie and visual effects are stunning have play a big role in story telling. To sum up, Stay was a great experience which stays with you after even watching the movie and makes you think about it for a long time.
dutchchocolatecake I've watched this movie a grand total of two times, and I can honestly say that the point of this movie does not get clearer no matter how many times you watch it. It's not like the Matrix, which is obviously trying to say something. This movie is boring, trite, and relies on good visuals to make up for it's pretentious laziness.I'm surprised this movie has gotten 6.9 stars. There are better movies that do worse than that.In a nutshell, this movie is about a young man's bizarre hallucination before he dies. It's got weird spiritual references about Buddhism, and about how life is just an illusion, etc. The young man acts like Jesus by predicting the weather and healing the blind. Trust me, though, the movie is not nearly so deep as to justify these plot elements. So much of the dialogue and characters are utterly pointless to the ending that it annoys me how much of a waste of time it is to watch it.
