Reviews

nnom Don't listen to the it-wasn't-that-bad reviews. It was. Acting-poor...expected. Storyline-overmined...expected. CGI-decent- expected. But even though it meets expectations, that's not saying much when expectations are low. There's just no reason to waste 90 mins of your life watching this...in a week, you'll have forgotten everything except, maybe, the fact that you watched it. It's racing out of my short term into oblivion as I type. Hard pass.
sushhebdhdhjd I have never written a review before. I probably won't again. But this movie was truly awful. I mean if when I say do not waste your time. The plot twist - that the game actually kills people - is revealed in the first act. The rest of the movie is so boring. I saw this as the concept was really cool, and I was so disappointed. I kept watching expecting it to get better - maybe there was a further plot twist. Nope, just that one of the players was running it - shocking . The movie ends with the winning player killing the creator of the game and leaving the building. That's it. I could not believe such a poorly made move exists. I am usually not very critical of movies, I enjoy many low budget, cheesy movies but this was just too far. 1 dimensional characters in a 1 dimension plot. Very poor production. Good things about it? Ummmmmmm.......I didn't find the actors as bad as some of the other posters say they were (they were still bad, but I've seen worse). I have a pretty high tolerance for bad acting though. My 1 star rating is based on writing mostly, as well as directing. The special effects were decent, but this is proof that CGI is worthless without a good storyline. One of the worst, most predictable, and boring story lines I have seen in a while.
bulldogbroome Why did I not read the reviews before watching this movie? The music sounded like it was rejected music from "Short Circuit" from the 1980's. The acting was worse than "The Core". The plot was...wait...was there a plot? I debated checking the box indicating that my review contained a spoiler because that would indicate that there was anything to give away in this movie. Unfortunately, the reason for the "game" that this 90 minutes of wasted screen time develops is never given. You spend and hour and a half watching this garbage hoping that there might be some explanation for it only to end up disappointed! Honestly, I'm thankful I watched it on Netflix. If I had actively sought out this movie and spent money on it I would have to slap myself. I want my 90 minutes back! Do yourself a favor...watch cat videos on YouTube instead of watching this movie. If you're going to watch something with no plot, at least it won't last 90 minutes.
hannahmadsen I've watched The Calll Up with a friend who's really into Action and Sci-Fi - what I can definitely not say about myself, however I surprisingly enjoyed watching The Call Up. One of reasons why I found this movie so interesting is that it riggered an inner conflict. I kept asking myself the whole time if everything is reality or just fictional. I couldn't wait to find out what will happen at the end - and I must say it was shocking ( I don't want to spoil it). Furthermore I liked the development of the individual characters. The film brought up the human behaviour in an extreme situation - which I thought was fascinating!Another aspect about The Call Up I really like is the design - I loved the suits and the difference between the two worlds. Although The Call Up is very violent ( A bit too brutal for my taste), it's definitely fun to watch!
