Nick Dees All things considered it is a Canadian film with a limited budget. So if you take that into consideration it is pretty good. But comparing it to other films it scores a lower score. The story and creating the feel for it was done very well but that is not enough to make it higher than 6/10. the acting was acceptable and the cinematography was above average. Even though it wasn't my favourite film I did like it enough to watch it again. Just for the shear art of the film. Don't get me wrong it is not philosophical or anything but what they were able to do with the little resources they had made it worthwhile. Sometimes when we watch movies we need to judge them for what they are. And like I said already and cant emphasis enough this move is very good for what they had, it just wont be winning any awards any time soon.
Leofwine_draca A straightforward, low budget action thriller with a post apocalypse setting. The cheapness of this production is hidden by some slick greyed-out photography, which makes the setting look bleak and washed-out, as is the intention. I'm not a huge fan of this predictable washed-out look but it's done to such a degree here that THE DAY appears to be a black and white movie.Otherwise it's business as usual, with a straightforward storyline and some interesting characters to recommend it. There's a certain air of unpredictability to the unfolding events which makes it more than watchable, and the action, when it hits, is well handled. Certainly the cannibalistic bad guys are generic and could have been replaced by vampires or zombies with the same effect, but then the focus isn't on the exterior villains.Instead this is almost a reprise of NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD, with much of the tension coming from within the group. Shawn Ashmore is a solidly reliable prop, as he was in FROZEN, but it's THE LAST EXORCISM's Brianna Barnes who really shines as Nikki, the outsider in the group who has her own hidden secrets. Barnes gives a compelling turn as the unlikeable character who grows on you, before ending up the most interesting thing in the whole thing. There's also a good turn from Dominic Monaghan, much better than he was in I SELL THE DEAD. I think it's fair to say that THE DAY is no classic but it's much more interesting than I expected.
januaryman-1 "The Day" started off well with a very atmospheric opening scene. It had an authentic feel to it with the tattered, annotated map and strategy talks among the group members. "The Day" continued on in fine fashion with good character development and revelations of some of the group members' back stories. The something went off the rails. I can't quite pinpoint where. The whole third act, I guess. Maybe just the last half of it. My point is that the movie was doing just fine until it came to a very weak ending that seemed to make no sense as to why it happened that way. I backed up the ending several times and was left asking, "what the hell?" A couple of the cast have familiar faces to movie watchers, but most were fresh faces that added to the realistic feel of the movie. It was hard to sympathize with any of the cast, but those are the characters and not the actors.Actors and atmosphere are the strengths of "The Day," while a weak ending is the weakness.
jackburrton This is one o the best movies i have seen in a long time. The filming and the actors and actress made it feel real and drew me in as if it could really happen.the darkness in the filming was great the lack of color and the fact that not everyones hair and clothes were perfect and new,Oh and the guys were not superhuman and did not take fifty bullets and live.the fact that they were gaunt and really looked like they were starving gave even more realness to the movie. Also it was not filled with a lot of gore but got the point across and you knew what was implied and still gave fear and despair into the plot.i have watched this ten times and could watch it ten more.I think it will be along time before another movie will come close.
