Lauren I had been waiting to see this movie for a while and I don't feel I was let down. I love Dylan and Britt, and they work really great together. The movie was written very well in my opinion, and showed really just how awkward and hilarious being a teenager is. I really would've liked an epilogue of some sort at the end to wrap it up a bit better, and tie up the loose ends. I also would've liked some more information on their backgrounds in how their characters developed. All in all I did adore this movie, but there were definitely things that could've been better.
ioannamt17 it was an excellent movie , without too much drama or too much romantic thing . Talks about love with a very special way . It reminds me , my love story that wasn't the normal way of love but something more special and more based on how you feel and how you connect with you love . Some movies are easy to love, or hate. But "The First Time" is hard to hate and easy to excited with . I don't feel the need to summarize what the movie is about, as the other reviews and the summary does that job, but I really enjoyed this movie. The writing for this movie really stood out to me, as the conversations felt so real between characters because of subtle little things that happen in most conversations in real life. That's a credit to the actors as well, but when you see the movie, especially the first time the main characters meet, you will understand what I mean.
james-726-893190 For a chick-flick, this is a lovely movie. I was forced to watch it & the pacing, the filmography-- everything fell into place accordingly. It's a lovely directed movie that speaks out realism in the perspective of teens. What I liked about this movie; regardless of what those two main characters were thinking of, be it rational or not, they still fell into that mistake due to "modernism" (quoting Aubrey herself) and the confusion caused by the society itself-- pretty much peer pressure in an indirect way. Although the raging hormones do play a significant role. The actors were adorable. I couldn't help but to "ship" them secretly in my head "JUST KISS ALREADY" was all I could mouth. They both interacted genuinely and sincerely, both being traditional & mature yet dying with curiosity of what people fuss about that is considered the most greatest thing in the act of humanity. The ending gave that positive light- a bit whimsical but still one should put an effort into conveying his/her feelings. Can't say it's the WOW girl movie, but certainly one of the nicest flicks I've seen out there. I won't mind seeing it again. Good rating cause in good mood. Blame it on the movie :)
vernonhill1956 This movie hearkens back to early John Hughes, back when Molly Ringwald was his muse. The dialogue shows that Jon Kasdan was paying attention when his dad was penning those excellent screenplays for Grand Canyon, The Big Chill and others. The direction is subtle, and the performances pitch perfect. Watching Dave and Aubrey fall quietly and quickly in love was both beautiful and amusing. Their obvious attraction to each other, or at least mutual interest is played out without fanfare in a wonderfully organic way. It was interesting to see Victoria Justice, obviously the "big" name in the cast play against type in her small but pivotal role. Kudos also to the part of Big Corporation. His character, while once again small, is essential. His physical presence, and the fact that he is silent in his first couple of scenes, makes his advice to Dave near the end all the more surprising. For me, he is one the lynch pins for the movie. Now as to Aubrey and Dave. WOW! Watching the actors inhabit these characters and avoid the clichés and stereotypes that could have easily have made this just another sex farce was wonderful to behold. I also admit that Dave reminds me of myself 40 years ago. A good guy, possibly carrying the torch for the wrong girl but being so obviously sweet and caring that Aubrey was able to see it, even without wanting to. Spoiler: the seduction scene is wonderfully poignant and funny and, most importantly, true to life. The truth is, rarely is the first time smooth going, much less rapturous. All in all, a very good movie that I would recommend to anyone, especially teens as they approach that fantastic and torturous time of their lives called high school.
