zacharychitwood This is my favorite movie. I like this better than many films that are objectively better. A lot of them actually. The film has an excellent story by Disney sequel standards. Sure it´s just another forbidden love story, but it is an excellent one. The music is probably the best thing. He Lives In You: Epic opening, arguably better than Circle of Life. Also Tina Turner did a cover of this.We Are One: Strangely, this is my least favorite song. It has a sort of simple sound, and while the lyrics are good, I find this song kinda boring. My Lullaby: Oh. My. Goodness. This song is DARRRRKK!!!!....rai. (Pokemon Joke LOL) This is one of my favorite songs in the movie and one of my favorite movie songs in general. This song is masterfully done.Upendi: I don´t have anything to say. It isnt too interesting. But ill take it over Hakuna Matata any day.Not One Of Us: This scene is so powerful and the scene displays some of the best animation in this movie. Love Will Find a Way: My favorite movie song ever. The song is just so beautiful. I love this song. The film is arguably better than the original, especially in the soundtrack. The new characters are good. Rafiki is given more screen time and Timon and Pumbaa are given less. Even if this film isn´t better than the original, i think it is, and thats what matters to me.
Matt Greene Wow. You guys didn't even TRY to make something fresh, did ya? Nice message about reconciliation, I guess...but honestly, who cares? On a bright note, Lion King 1 ½ is pretty fun. If we wanna watch a Lion King sequel, we'll just stick with that one, thank you.
Torrin-McFinn77 We (my family and I) got the VHS tape for this movie and it wasn't until recently I got it on blu-ray and watched it again. When I watched Simba's Pride for the first time and time passed after my last viewing, I forgot a lot. But after watching it again, it had my undivided attention. One of my online friends said she couldn't stand it and claimed it was overrated, while some of the other folks among the online community said it was overrated too. But it's nice as a sequel and I wanted to see more of Simba's adventures on the savannah. And Kiara and Kovu stole the show. Now we have The Lion Guard and it continues the adventures of everyone's favorite African animals. But this is a little better. It felt sappy at parts but on the whole it's a decent sequel along with other big-screen sequels such as The Mummy Returns and Home Alone 2: Lost in New York. But I say give it a chance!
Tinny-Tinette During at time when Disney were churning out direct to video-sequels, "The Lion King" was one of the earlier films to receive a sequel. It's a pity that such a intelligent and substantial film as "The Lion King" didn't received a theatrical release, but after the unfortunate box office failure of "Rescuers Down Under" (for the most ridiculous reasons ever made), Disney went to a safer alternative with releasing them direct to video. While I've never personally detested them as many does, there's no denial that they are in a inferior quality. Regardless, "Simba's Pride" has gotten a fan base and has the reputation of being a superior quality of the cheapquels bunch. So is the good reputation deserved? It's tempting to say yes, but unfortunately "Simba's Pride" is hampered by some flaws that makes the cheapquel qualities obvious. On the positive side, "Simba's Pride" does excel in terms of it's sheer charm. The film does have a irresistible cuteness factor that makes the film appealing. The animation is actually quite fine. While it's not on the same level as it's stunning predecessor, it' still better than many of it's cheapquels siblings. The music is pretty good, with a fine score and actually some quite likable songs ("We Are One", "My Lullaby", "Upendi", "One Of Us").Where the film falls flat is on it's screenplay and characterizations. The Romeo and Juliet-esque story offers dramatic potential, but it's execution is disappointingly thin and straightforward, leaving some obvious plot holes. Kiara may portray some spunk now and then, but at the end she's nothing more than a just another poor miserable princess who's unhappy with her situation and the movie does nothing to elevate that. The outlanders, especially Zira and Kovu, does display some dimensionality, but their development are vaguely executed. The film also doesn't really know what to do with the characters from the former movie. Timon and Pumbaa were actually fine in the first movie, but here they are grating. Zazu is personality-deprived. The only one who does portray some spunk is Rafiki, but even his role is limited. So where do I put "Simba's Pride". It is a cute movie on its own merits, but the flaws hamper the film from being as good as it could have been. However, the film is not a total dud, so I'll give it some good points for it's strengths.
