Horst in Translation ([email protected]) "U.F.Oh Yeah" is the newest work by renowned short film director Ryan Connolly. It runs for 5 minutes and stars his brother Josh as the only actor in the film. As you may have guessed from the title, it is a mix of comedy and science fiction. A fat guy sees a UFO coming down near his place and he goes to welcome the guys. But the encounter does not go exactly as planned. The film is really about this encounter and the comedic moment there. Without this scene, it probably would not even deserve 4 stars. Unfortunately the production values are low and I am surprised Connolly's films have such a positive reception as I hardly see anything special in them. The biggest problem here is that the makeup work is really not good at all. It's obvious that he is wearing a fat suit and this hurts the film even more as his weight is a core plot point. Not a good outcome. Not recommended.
rayyanmaster This is the first time that Ryan has made a sci-fi short film and yet it has proved to be the best one yet. It is a sci-fi with a mix of comedy. This short compared to the previous ones has much better production quality. The behind the scenes for the film is available on their youtube channel, where Ryan also shows some of the Technics that went into making the short. The movie is able to capture the audience in the very beginning, over all its a great short. You can watch the short on youtube. The story revolves around just one character, but it still keeps you interested. The short was directed by Ryan Connolly and the dp was Ryan Booth.
Amin Suwedi (aminsuwedi) Ryan Connolly has been my mentor for over a year and half. I had not known him earlier but when I learnt about his works I watched all episodes of his very educational and fun-to-watch Film Riot series. I watched all his works more than once and to see this one, even greater than the ones before is a great example that with effort, love, passion and a good heart dreams are achievable. The first thing I admired about the film is the cinematography. Ryan Booth did a great job in using the visuals, color & color temperature, movement and the like to help tell the story. Put this together with the great story and direction from Ryan Connolly brings out not only a good comedy short film but also a great visual piece as well. The second thing I loved about the film was the acting. We've seen Josh from the first episode paving his skills in the world of performance. We've watched him in comedy, action, thriller and he's grown in each step. This film being a proof of the great development. The story is great, the suspense is the right amount and the turn point is unexpected but great in the style it was crafted on. U.F.OH Yeah is definitely a film to watch especially when one wants to understand the growth of the indie film making society, the growth of Film Riot.
jeremybdman34 I've been following the Film Riot team for over 5 years and they have always inspired me to make films. This film here is truly why I love their work. The lighting, cinematography, acting and direction are well executed here. It's a fun story with a great ending. The Film Riot team really pulled out the stops for this one and they were very successful with it.If you need a laugh, this is worth the watch. It's 5 minutes of your life, that you should spend on this little gem. Then go and find their behind-the-scenes they did on this, and see how much effort went into this production. Ryan makes every effort to teach you how everything came into place and show you all the struggles and successes. It's worth 5 minutes of your life, especially if you're a budding filmmaker.Ryan and the Film Riot team, thanks for the great film, my wife and I loved it.
