Reviews

D Paterson-Watts There's a lot of negative reviews on here about this, I'm just really glad I watched the film before reading them!! Sometimes a film asks you to suspend your disbelief. The very premise of this film is so preposterous as to not be out of place in an animated Disney film, so I find it incredible that more people didn't watch the film with that in mind. It has an excellent supporting cast, all of which hit the mark, fans of Napolean Dynamite will be delighted, and the leads are really good, Bell in particular.Sure it's not ground breaking (rom-coms almost never are, by their nature we usually have an idea of what's coming), but it's full of fun and it's been made well, with enough substance and humour to keep you going til the end - unlike some rom-coms with much higher ratings. I would recommend checking it out if you like to lose yourself in fantasy and you're a fan of the genre
DvdWatcher-n-player Just watched little bits of it as I skimmed thru. all the clichés are there, up and running and still alive. The romantic girl lead is an "aspirational" jet-setter who has no spots, despite living and working a hectic lifestyle. She has a fat girlfriend, a male gay friend and an unassuming boss. This is Mills and Boon updated for the 21st Century. So you are being peddled the old myth that all a successful working girl *really* wants is a Good man, pref Hetero, Solvent, Handsome and without visible impairment. I really got it from somewhere to test out the 1080p but really a Testcard would have more plot and better characters. Must buy Avatar or Prometheus. I really wonder why Janiston didn't get the gig as this is really on her wavelength. Maybe age catches us all. If shes lusting after a Bustin, she knows where to find me (jk).
chrisandshia Nick was adorable. Beth was kinda dense for taking coins, would she like someone to rip her wishes from a fountain? The most upsetting things to me in the whole movie was Nick's friend who needed a shave and a hairdresser-I wanted to strangle my t.v every time he was on screen-although if Jack Black had played it- it would have been cute. The restaurant in the dark was very funny. I cannot believe people would eat in the dark- I have trouble seeing in daylight. The magician guy was very annoying. He was just like a talking mime or something. Again I gritted my teeth.Even the man driving the stagecoach was annoying. Can't anyone not say "Dude?".Lastly- did Beth not play with a helmet on? She should have spotted real love from Nick and fake from the others.Beth's story about Picazzo was probably one version that was supposed to be true. I heard through a source people don't want to hear- that Van Gogh cut his ear off because Picasso refused his love. And he threw himself down a flight of stairs. Also lastly- I do not think Nick's painting was artistic or sad- my grandmother was an artist and I have seen lots better that she painted. What was up with that Liza Minelli looking secretary- who I could have gotten very upset because of her taking the coins-what a busy body.As much as I complained about the people it was a very good movie. Also, what was up with Anjelica Houston. She was so mild and sweet in the Addams Family movies. Damn, she was a monster. The most laughable thing was the little car- that was very funny. I was glad Nick stayed his handsome charismatic self all the way to the end.
chuckvogel I saw this movie 3 months ago. it was so bad i can't get it out of my head. i am hoping to excise the demons by venting here. I can honestly say that it is one of the two worst movies I have EVER seen in my life, along with The Tailor of Panama. Skip this movie. It is difficult to know where to start. I do not have a problem with movie premises that ask you to suspend disbelief so as to make a basic tenant of the story line work. But i have a huge problem with being asked to suspend disbelief because the writers are too lazy to come up with plausible plot machinations. this movie does both. The acting is incredible inept. I was particularly put off by Will Arnett's turn as an improbably poorly cast Italian. Though Dax Sheppard, Jon Heder and Danny divito were equally poor choices who phoned in their performances. Editing was poor as it was at times difficult to know where the action was taking place, not that I cared. The "jokes" were not funny. The chemistry in this "romantic comedy" between the two leads was unbelievable. Actually not existent. just all around terrible...
