Synopsis

Set in the world of fashion and PR, immature fun-loving mother Edina Monsoon and her best friend Patsy drive Eddie's sensible daughter, Saffron, up the wall with their constant drug abuse and outrageous selfishness. Numerous in-jokes and heavy doses of cruel humour have made this series a cult hit in the UK and abroad.

RaspberryLucozade Like with 'Little Britain', I am mortified to admit that there was once a time I used to find 'Absolutely Fabulous' hilarious. Now, bear in mind I was at that time an impressionable youngster who was easily amused. Now, as a mature adult, I think back and cannot seem to fathom why I ever found it funny. I mean, what the hell is so funny about a pair of old skanks getting drunk and running around screeching like banshees?Starting life as a sketch from an episode of 'French & Saunders', 'Absolutely Fabulous' ( or 'Ab Fab' as many of its fans seem to refer to it as ) was all about chain smoking, heavy drinking, drug taking, plastic surgery obsessed Edina Monsoon and her equally addled friend Patsy Stone. Edina has two children, the sensible Saffron ( or Saffy as Edina often called her ) and the seldom seen Serge. Also on the scene are Edina's scatty mother, who is often verbally scalded by her manipulative daughter.Jennifer Saunders hams it up so much here that it is toe curlingly cringing to watch. Joanna Lumley, who at that time was my biggest childhood crush, is wasted in the role of Patsy. Julia Sawalha, who replaced Dawn French in the role of Saffy, is boring and unfunny. The show's only real saving grace is June Whitfield as Edina's mum. The gorgeous Helen Lederer, who appeared occasionally as Patsy and Eddy's ditzy friend Catriona, has appeared in far better things than this such as 'Naked Video' and 'Happy Families' ( which also starred Jennifer Saunders and to far better comic effect too in my view ).The show's theme tune is a painful cover of Bob Dylan and Rick Danko's '60's hit 'This Wheel's On Fire'. It has been announced that a movie of 'Ab Fab' is currently in production. Why not just leave it where it is? In fact, why not just leave it full stop.
Donna Miller Having been all of three years of age when Absolutely Fabulous first graced our screens, it was only ten years later that I got my first taste of the wonder that is Edina Monsoon, Patsy Stone and the rest of the wonderful gang. Within minutes, I was as hooked to this funky, off-the-wall sitcom as my favourite duo are to a nice bottle of Stoli. The writing is sharp, witty and definitely survives the test of time, the acting is brilliant, the characters are hilarious... what is there not to love? Okay, so there aren't any real story arcs that stretch beyond an episode, but when I watch Ab Fab, I'm not looking for that. If I'm in the mood for some real British comedy at its best, a chance to laugh out loud and escape daily stresses for half an hour (or an entire day if I include one of my more excessive Ab Fab binges) then this is the box set I choose. All of the main characters shine throughout the series, from the extremely immature and pathetically (in the best way possible) inept Eddie, to the never eating yet forever drinking Patsy, and long- suffering Saffy, away with the fairies Gran, and quite possibly from another planet Bubble to boot. This little show is so unpolitically correct at times that it can make me cringe (while laughing like a loon), it's so wrong in places that it really is right, and it unabashedly sticks with its characters and makes us love them even when, sometimes, maybe we shouldn't. With countless awards, a cult following, and now a movie in the works, I really do believe that Absolutely Fabulous will continue to be just that in another 22 years.
Syl Patsy and Edina are two of the most unlikable female characters. They're both hungover and loaded with selfishness. Edina or Eddy is a middle aged mother of two, divorced, and living in London with her teenage daughter Saffron who would probably wish for a better mother. Edina's first appearance and conversation with her daughter in the morning is a sad spectacle. Jennifer Saunders plays Edina. Joanna Lumley is cast as Patsy. They're best friends. This is a French & Saunders production. The cast is first rate but the writing is off the wall whether funny and cruel or both. June Whitfield is great as Edina's mother.
Ruc_A_Buc Almost. I can say that this is a strong contender for the worst show of all time. I mean, I'm the type of person that can find something entertaining about almost every TV show and movie. But this, this, it's just.....well not there. And I'm a fan of other British comedies so I know it's not that. Just nothing redeeming about this show. Annoying characters, unfunny jokes, unfunny premises, bad acting. The list goes on. It seems to be an acquired taste to other people. I've tried to acquire it and then tried to erase the memory afterwords. If you're a fan, I don't see how. That escapes me. Open-minded as I am, I can't bring myself to even enjoy a single thing about Absolutely Fabulous. The more I think about it, it's not a contender. It is the undisputed, reigning champion of the worst TV shows ever. Just pure crap. Very annoying, but not an annoying funny. Just plain, want to rip your eyes out and plug your ears annoying. But as I say in all reviews, you must see for yourself and form your own opinion. If mine is not clear yet, let me restate.ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS IS THE WORST TELEVISION SHOW EVER.Good day.
