No one asked this show to be anything more than another CW soap opera, and yet over the course of several seasons, this show has evolved into arguably the ultimate comic book adaptation. Other superhero tv shows find the balance between camp and darkness difficult, Daredevil being an unbearably gloomy world and others like Gotham are campy at the wrong moment and edgy when its inappropriate. Arrow, at it's best, glides the line better than any other superhero show, and at its worst, returns to form shortly thereafter. Is this groundbreaking television? No, it never was, however if you can hold out past the first 2 episodes, the show is a generally well acted, consistently well shot and directed live action comic. It is exactly what it should be, serialized melodrama and fantastic action. If you want something to challenge you, there is just enough substance to do so and if you want something to take you away, there is plenty to go back to week after week.
