Jesper Brun Because of that, nostalgia plays a significant role when I'm reviewing this show. I liked that Terry McGinnis becomes a ned Batman in spite of an aging Bruce Wayne's reluctant attitude to begin with. Even though I'm used to Kevin Conroy's Batman nowadays, I think Will Friedle's performance was decent even though his character lacked the same punch and grit from previous renditions of Batman. Those were minor details I can live with, but there is one thing about this show which makes me kind of sad after watching it again. The first season had Derek Powers as a great antagonist which made the episodes including him ooze of tension because of controversies between him and Terry McGinnis, but after that season concluded, we never see him again. That was sad, because he is the most memorable villain in this series. There are other ones who are memorable like Inque and The Royal Flush Gang, but they're no Joker. The villains aside, there is a dynamic relationship between McGinnis and Wayne which leads to both some enjoyable deadpan humour and tense moments here and there which keep the show enjoyable. The best aspect regarding memorability is the issues they face. Societal issues like the use of technology and what it does to humans. That mixed with emotional struggles among many characters make the writing intelligent and thoughtprovoking. It is a good show set in a futuristic Gotham which looks very nice and I could have given it a 9/10, but the cut-out of Derek Powers/Blight disappointed me too much to do so. Watch it anyway, it is involving and interesting entertainment for action/crime lovers.
SlyGuy21 What holds this back from being as good as other Batman shows I've seen is that it's inconsistent. The first season's good, it's executed well for the most part, there are cool villains like Blight, Inque, and Spellbinder, there are dark themes like corporate corruption and assassination, but then Season 2 starts. The show honestly peeked in Season 1, and the last 2 seasons dragged on. There were still some good episodes in the last 2 seasons, but they were few and far between. A lot of the episodes are self-contained, villains that only show up once and then never mentioned again. The show lacked a good staple villain like Joker or Two-Face, so a lot of them were just throwaways. A lot of the villains lacked an origin story too, Blight has one, but Spellbinder and Inque just show up and it's never explored how or why they became villains. The positives are the back and forth between Bruce and Terry, the generation gap works for a lot of the show's humor, the futuristic setting's cool, and the episodes that were good are on point, but at the end of the day, there wasn't a lot to keep me engaged. Some episodes just exist, others feel stretched to 20 minutes. More episodes are mediocre than good, and it feels like the writers just got lazy in some cases. If anything, watch the first season, and "Return of the Joker", the rest honestly isn't that impressive.
Criticman12 During the 90's, Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment made some classic animated show's such as, "Batman: The Animated Series" and "Superman: The Animated Series". But in 1999, they released, "Batman Beyond".Set in a futuristic Gotham City, the show is about a a 16-year old trouble maker named, Terry McGinnis. When his father get's killed, he get's help from Bruce Wayne, who use to be Batman, to get revenge. After when Terry get's his revenge, Bruce want's Terry to protect Gotham City from evil criminal's including familiar face's like Mr. Freeze.I use to watch this show on Cartoon Network when I was little and it did impress me.Pro's: The character's were interesting. Terry is a rebellious teenager who end's up being a good person in the end. Bruce is old and still has that tough attitude of his. Also, the villain's were pretty interesting including the teenager who has telekinetic power's (Forgot what his name is). The animation was amazing because it has a nice, "Blade Runner", feel to it and it stay's true to how dark the setting is.Overall, "Batman Beyond", is a great animated show for any Batman fan or anyone looking for a good animated show to watch.
Angelus2 Bruce Wayne has retired from the life of crime fighting, alone in his mansion on the outskirts of the city, he ponders of what was. And then Terry Mcginnis arrives on his door step and thus a new age of Batman begins. At the time when this show first arrived, I was Twelve, and I was totally blown away. The story lines were complex and, the action was just as brilliant; the characters were all interesting and intriguing. It was a brilliant show.Today, I caught a couple of episodes on syndication and I found myself picking up on innuendo's that I missed as a twelve year old, and how 'saucy' certain scenes were in the show. Something, I think you would definitely not see in today's terrible animation.Honestly, this show has not aged in my opinion; the animation is, dare; I say it...better than the stuff today, its realistic and gritty. Amazing cartoon.
