colintoye I'll start with the positives. It seems to be brilliantly written and keeps you guessing throughout. The chemistry between the two main detectives is excellent and the backdrop and drama are excellent. Well worth watching for sure. The slight negatives are how inept the two main detectives are, unless this is on purpose? The other major flaw is that detectives don't walk all over a crime scene looking for evidence and chase after suspects without ever calling anything in. They ask the wrong questions, they are blinkered and don't do or learn anything as they go along. In summary. Very entertaining but slightly unbelievable in many areas.Still, best type of drama for a long time, 2nd only to line of duty
doctorwho-61602 Broadchurch is just incredible. Colman and Tennant are great as the leads, but Whittaker and Buchan are equally as good in their supporting roles. Great acting, writing, cinematography, and music. 10/10
FountainPen David Tennant's extremely broad and apparently purposely-exaggerated Scottish accent came close to ruining this laudable mini-series. There was no need for him to overboard with the Scot twang, truly. I'm sure many viewers had trouble understanding him. I've been around English and Scottish people all my life, and found Tennant's accent in this programme highly annoying. Other than that, the acting was solid. Recommended if you don't mind a mystery being stretched out to fill 9 episodes !
dale-51649 The first two seasons of this show are fairly good. A local kid is found dead on the beach, and it goes through a good "whodunnit" with a lot of interesting suspense. It is really sad that the third season becomes a preachy propaganda piece. It starts off with a rape case. The neurotic guy cop works with a Bovine female cop with bad hair, and he lets her boss him around all the time. "Make SOME TEA" she barks, and tells him that his nick name is sh#te face. Both of them interview potential suspects as if they were all dirt, and it seems that the writers think they are. Looking at porno and any sex outside marriage is evil if you are the guy in the equation, if you are female on the other hand it is none of anybody's business. The low point is when a cop threatens to mutilate the genitals of young boys if they even look cross eyed at his daughter. Keep in mind this is a show that continually slaps you across the face with the edict of doing a sex crime investigation, then seems to show that it is only the female of the species that deserve respect. It is apparently anti violence, unless the victim has male genitalia, then it is advocated. There are several subplots of totally unattractive women being obsessed over by guys begging them to have them... major cred problems. This show would like to shame anybody who is a male, pandering at it's worst.
