allisonchambon This show is amazing! The scenery, acting, and story line are all excellent. Can't wait for season two!
Nima Nimo Khalighi I feel betrayed. This show was truly great up to the ending of episode 7. It was really getting you immersed in the show and the intensity was increasing, as well as your curiosity for the mysteries about the end unfolded. But unfortunately, from episode 8 it went downhill real fast. Too many plot holes, too many flawed concepts, and too many characters without meaning. The last 3 episodes felt like you were being fed gibberish down your throat. A few examples are as follows: When the clockwork person fixed the time machine, he basically said "I wouldn't have known how to invent this device if you didn't show me the older time machine from the future". I cringed so damn hard at that moment. There is absolutely no way that is possible. This isn't comparable to the philosophical talk about "which came first, the egg or the chicken". Let's make something clear, if Tannhaus hadn't initially built the time machine, then it would have never gotten in the hands of Jonas in future, let alone having him bring back the completed version. Another example is Noah. That character's existence in the show was truly a disaster. First off, too much emphasis on "dark and light" or "evil and good". Secondly, his motives were completely unclear and they just did a really poor job giving him a purpose. Overall I'm disappointed in the way that they carried over the story and the characters after Episode 7. It could have honestly been an even better show. Pointers: -Too many plot holes -Flawed concepts -Some characters without clear motives (especially Noah) -Too much emphasis on biblical ideas (Dark vs Light or Evil vs Good)
Five legged dog "Dark" is a little bit different. Set in the town of Winden, it starts with the disappearance of a local boy. We soon learn this isn't the first time this has happened. In fact, many of the events taking place in Winden (missing children, birds dropping dead out of the sky) have happened before. Perhaps it's the work of a serial killer, or a cover-up at the nuclear plant - and yet, as investigations get under way, something far stranger surfaces. There are plenty of nordic feels about this show: it's mournful and quietly disturbing. Expect slow-burn tension rather than jump scares, jerky camera work or excessive gore, as well as fairytale elements to the story, characters and setting. The pace is surprisingly slow, yet it's easily bingeable, in part because of the unexpected way the story unfolds. This isn't 'background TV': you'll need to pay attention, whether or not you watch in the original German (I suggest you do). Even then, there's a lot to make sense of and reconcile - but in a very rewarding sense. If you enjoy nordic noir - especially The Killing - or Les Revenants, this is likely to be the series for you. It's about grief and the impossible - and that's quite some combination.
david hollyfield I don't understand the erroneous comparison to Darker Things. This series is by far one of the most original I have seen in ages.Part crime thriller, part horror and part Sci Fi time travel paradox and as dark as the title suggests. The story is complex and a little hard to follow at times for the non German speakers, but rewarding enough to justify the effort of paying attention. This is adult viewing. While Stranger Things probably had wider appeal as it's story was more aimed at the 'Young Adult' audience. And while Darker Things referenced a lot of familiar American pop culture, Dark stands alone in it's own claustrophobic world.Very original, very European and very satisfying.9/10 stars from this viewer.
