allcontezzacastle Krypton had so many chances for good story lines and interesting plots. And despite rushing the actors through moments containing genuine feeling, then dragging everyone slowly back and forth amongst horribly made rocks in the fake snow (like you are trying to follow this sentence), while we tried to care about Seg. The forbearer of our Superman Kal-El. First, I tried to like everyone else less, knowing that he was the star and the "good guy." Then I tried to like any qualities about him at all. Unfortunately, the writers made him too irritating, too dangerous and reckless with the lives of his friends, and so slow to catch on to things that I was concerned he might have brain damage from so much fighting.I'm aware that he has to be reckless to keep the action moving along, but Seg has almost schizophrenic bounces from smart to "too stupid to live." I am a mild, non-violent person, but several times I urged characters (aloud) to "Shoot him! Shoot him NOW!" while watching the show, to save us all from further torture.Seg's disregard for the dangers of defying various authorities (including continuing to steal a vehicle which led to his mother's death), and wishy-washy indecision about a career felt more like the problems of a human 13 year old male, so his obvious age and marriage/relationship dilemmas were confusing. (Plus he's a con man that smiles while he spends his friend's money without permission. I considered tv-shooting him myself.)The most disappointing thing was how Seg treated Doctor Strange, even after the evidence he provided, he was dismissed.Unfortunately, the writers can't be blamed for everything. The actor playing Seg is nearly always wooden and charisma free. I just don't feel any sincerity except when he says he's leaving. Some of the early episodes seemed to have inexperienced directors. Maybe not, but I believe that a few from my favorite shows could have made Krypton an alien world with interesting people and cultures and some real feelings. I was really hoping for some of that.I awarded Krypton 3 Stars. I started with 5, then deducted 2 for the times I really-really wanted to "off" the star character and leave him next to a papier-mache rock in the sad snow. I stopped watching the series after episode 7, I think.
ngyoung240671-716-423551 I have just binge watched the first 10 episodes (Season 1). As a big fan of SciFi in all its forms it was an interesting take on a Legend i grew up with from the late Christopher Reeve, Dean Cain, Brandon Routh & now Henry Cavill. To take up a story that pre dates this Legend of a character was a brave creation indeed. There are the die hard fans who have slated this in its Plot, Characters & acting, they are as entitled as anyone else to their opinion. Well here is mine!Well done, you have taken something that had a singular perspective, "Superman saves the world" & made it that MANY people save the world, there are twists & turns all the way through it to keep you itching for the next episode. You have shown what Krypton was like in your perspective, unlike the films which spent a max of 3 minutes explaining and showing the planet dying, we get to see the depth of what its government stoops to, not much unlike our own lol. The main plot being that Braniac is coming, a character any DC fan knows has always lurked in the back ground and now has his very own story. The acting was actually very well done, each character fitted their part well, the surprise appearance of General Zod did throw me a curve ball trying to figure out how that came about, and the only thing i did feel was not the best plot twist & stolen right from Star Wars is that the main character Seg El is Zod's Father & originally from the house of El, that is about the only thing i think they could have maybe not included into this well done series. Maybe Zod could have just travelled back in time to achieve his goal rather than throwing in that bit of a daft twist so much like Luke & Darth Vader. The CGI & effects are well done & i hope that the 2nd season gets the go ahead.Remember this, its a programme, its not factual, its a take/an angle on someone's perspective on how they saw Krypton before Superman was even born.Love it or Hate it, or be in-between, but if you have any love for SciFi then i suggest you struggle through or thoroughly enjoy the 1st season.Lastly, the ending was a little surprising but could be predicted from episode 7, at least it gives a beginning to the next season & the hope the next season has much the same as the 1st..
Patp1968 Love this show. So tired of people trashing shows that other people like. If you don't like just don't watch it. Let other viewers enjoy
Dee Mou In the face of all the Star Trek Films, and the multiple renditions of the DC Comic Universe (Justice League/Superman storylines), here comes an intriguing version of the prequel to the Superman story from the perspective of Kal El's grandfather, with guest appearances from future heroes and villains who have the potential to save/screw up the space-time continuum. (No spoilers. If you like this kind of thing, go watch the series.) IMO, the quirks are all in the casting. Superman's Grandfather, Seg-El (Cammeron Cuffe) is a dead ringer for Smallville Kal El (Tom Welling); Lyta & Jayna Zod (Georgina Campbell & Ann Ogbomo, respectively) are meant to be very "Amanda Waller" type characters from the DC world. Nyssa Vex (Wallis Day) is a random Sharon Stone-esque character, and her father co-social climber Daron Vex (Elliot Cowan) is made up to be rather an evil clone of Russell Crowe. Hmm.There are some interesting moments about the mob mentality, some familiar storylines tied together and a MAJOR SURPRISE in Season 2 Episode 9 (oof... so difficult to keep this one to myself, but no spoilers). Glad Season 2 is around the corner. Hopefully the "fluff" characters don't spoil the major movement created by the Season 1 cliff hanger.
