Then frank becomes sad because he has lost command then later he finds out the Margaret/hot lips houlihan his war lover gets engaged and becomes enraged and finally leaves M*A*S*H then major Charles Winchester arrives who gets transferred from Tokyo much to his anger. Then radar leaves leaving clinger to be company clerk and that is the basics of the TV comedy series M*A*S*H. It is one of the best TV series out there and i recommend it to anyone young or old who likes a good laugh. Thanks this me signing off thanks again for letting me share this review.
feakes MASH was a classic black comedy. It was set in Korea but spoke out against Vietnam, When the Movie and book were successful enough to make a TV Series changes had to be made. Gone was the Hawkeye and Trapper John who were anarchists and doing what ever it was to relieve boredom and gone was the movie version of Frank burns a bible thumping hypocrite who was unlikable. Also gone was Duke Forrest the Southern redneck doctor. Spearchucker lasted a couple of episodes. When the show found its footing it focused on the main core group of Hawkeye Trapper John Col.Henry Blake Radar and Frank Burns and hot Lips The Series made Changes suddenly Hawkeye became a crusader who became almost a noble knight. Trapper was the Rebel who rebelled against authority while Hot Lips was the sex symbol and Frank Burns was no longer dangerous but bumbling. You could see thru out the show that these people cared deeply for one another. Great Acting all around and the stories are first notch.designed to make you think while laughing. Then the show changed around 75 gone was Henry Blake and trapper John. Replaced by Col. Sherman Potter and Captain B.J. Hunnicutt. Two of the best replacements. Klinger became more of a focus as well and the show became even more solid. It even survived the loss of Frank Burns and the arrival of Major Charles Emerson Winchester the third. and M.A.S.H felt more like a family. Well until its last episode. Even after Radar left the show didn't miss a beat. M.A.S.H. is one show that has all the magic and it never loses it even after 40 years . One of my favorite shows of all time. And a Show I'm proud to re watch over and over again.
pseudonymforcl I was 14 when this hit television and my parents hated, so I of course loved it. I watched fairly consistently for a bit, but grew tired of it, I was not mature enough to appreciate what it was. A few years later I went back to watching it and did like it again but I didn't find it humorous. Many years later I would catch reruns and my opinion was still the same, I like it but it really isn't comedy, not even dark comedy. Recently a friend went through the entire series, any way she could find it, library, on line, she even bought some, she could not get enough. This prompted me to watch it again. Now a few years later I think I know what I saw, what I missed and what I really think: It is a very well put together series, entertaining, has a message (most of the time whether you like the message or not is up to you), it spoke to a divided country reeling from the Vietnam war and it made you think. As a comedy it completely misses the mark, it was a two joke show, which made me loose interest when I was 16. Sorry for the rambling but it I hope it gave you an idea of the evolution of my thoughts.
Armand more than a TV show. humor and war. clever, ironic, subtle, unique, fresh, seductive, crazy. memorable characters and huge success. a manifesto, an original way to define world, a form of art to create image of history piece. and, in which occasion, a fabulous meeting. a kind of encyclopedia for autopsy of reality out of any mask. a good script, nuanced acting, amazing cast and science to surprise in every episode. a movie about Vietnam and human virtues. about friendship, hypocrisy, fear, sick, hospital atmosphere, root of emotions, absurd situations, good surgeries and amazing Radar, Alan Alda in his perfect role and pieces of a world of every day. a movie, newspaper and Shakespeare play. or just a sentimental refuge.
