kshahsky Superb acting by all and wonderful locales with a real story line. Wow! Most of this is on Spanish but then who cares when this series grabs you by the small hair and drags you through its ups and downs. Very addictive. Sort of frightening too because this is a real story
hitman-18300 The Netflix series Narcos is an extreme example of the official US gov agency view creeping its way or dominating documentaries. You see this on the History Ch, Military Ch,Book TV, Ridley Scott TV shows and movies, and Narcos.Lets be clear that decades ago nobody respected or trusted anything the Pentagon,FBI ,CIA or DEA had to say about anything. Now,thanks to Michael Bay and tabloid TV, they are the heroes. The whole story is given from the point of view of 2 bozos with no education, no ethics, and no clue about Colombia.
me_sweety So there are a few things about this shows direction which just make it amazing. Firstly, its historically very accurate, secondly, they have tried very hard to maintain the realism by making sure Pablo doesnot look or speak like what he didnot in real life. He and all the other Columbian characters speak in Spanish which adds a really realistic charm to the show, he is rotund and deadly just like he looked in real life (hell one can compare this with Tudors where Henry V had abs -__-) moreover, the narration, the acting and the tiny snippets they add from actual historical footages makes the show seem pretty realistic. I absolutely love all the actors ranging from Gustav and Pablo to Agent Murphy and Carillo. God, I love the way they have presented all the characters; Carillo, Murphy, Gabrielle, Pablo. It was difficult to not fall in love with them. I know this is probably a very poorly written review but this show is amazing and one should watch it.
gazface If you're not a native Spanish speaker you'll probably not notice much in terms of how Wagner Moura (Pablo Escobar) butchers the Spanish language with his heavy Brazilian accent. Pablo Escobar, the main persona, spoke with a Medellin, Paisa, accent which is not emulated at all by Mr. Moura. But you know what? I forgive Mr Moura. Why? His performance is so good as Escobar and so convincing that it gradually makes you forget about his thick Brazilian accent. What is unforgivable though is the suuuuper Swedish accent of actor Mattias Varela, playing the roll of the Cali Cartel security chief, Jorge Salcedo, in season three. I mean come on! At least Mr Moura gave a solid performance and had an accent regional to Latin America. Mr Varela on the other hand gives a, at best, wooden performance, and that combined with his almost comically Swedish accent, especially when speaking English, makes for some almost unwatchable scenes where Salcedo, supposedly a Colombian, is chatting away as he were the Swedish chef from the Muppet Show. Netflix please, hire accent coaches next time.Apart from Mouras Brazilian accent and Varelas (comically) Swedish accent, the show is really good, well made and entertaining.
