Synopsis

Jessica Day is an offbeat and adorable girl in her late 20s who, after a bad breakup, moves in with three single guys. Goofy, positive, vulnerable and honest to a fault, Jess has faith in people, even when she shouldn't. Although she's dorky and awkward, she's comfortable in her own skin. More prone to friendships with women, she's not used to hanging with the boys—especially at home.

jwwalrath-227-85487 Recently finished watching the last season and I will miss it. This show was delightfully quirky and funny. The cast is talented all around with a surprisingly strong roster of supporting and guest characters. The standouts are Max Greenfield as uptight, metrosexual businessman Schmidt and Lamorne Morris super-weird Winston Bishop. The show does sometimes fall into traditional sitcoms tropes, such as forced romantic setbacks and entanglements and some plot points are thrown away on a whim. Seasons 3 and 7 are weaker than the rest. The former makes the classic mistake of cranking up a couple of character's negative traits, and the latter just ran out of material.
SnoopyStyle Jessica Day (Zooey Deschanel) finds her boyfriend cheating on her and she is forced to find another place to live. She moves in with Nick Miller (Jake Johnson), Schmidt (Max Greenfield), and Coach. In the second episode, Winston Bishop (Lamorne Morris) replaces Coach as their roommate. Cece Parikh (Hannah Simone) is Jessica's lifelong friend. This is a standard single gal sitcom from writer Elizabeth Meriwether after No Strings Attached. The main thing especially in the beginning is the doll-eyed adorably quirky stylings of Zooey Deschanel. Over the years, she has honed in on her good-natured cutesy personality. The cast around her quickly gels. The on-and-off Jess and Nick romance is great at first but sometimes a hinderance in the middle years. Schmidt is quirky hilarity and Cece is surprisingly humorous. The last piece of the puzzle is Winston. It's tough to replace a lead character that quickly especially one as good as Damon Wayans Jr. He left for another show which diminishes this show at its inception. Lamorne's amiability does build up good will over time. Eventually, he becomes not just a replacement but a real force behind the comedy. At its core, Deschanel is an adorable leading actress and the gang is a super fun bunch of friends. That's what this type of network sitcoms require.
amandagobin Seriously love this show! The genuine characters bring forth such great comedy! I wasn't really disappointed when they decided to end the show. It is definitely worth the watch with so many great one liners!!
mandssolomon So, my 15-year old wanted me to watch "New Girl" with him. There's not much plot, so the show really relies on character development to engage its watchers. It's basically about a girl who for some odd reason, needs to live with 3 random men-The dream of all mothers of daughters, right? All of the characters are 30 year olds with no real drive or depth. They just act dumb, say silly things and "pose" a lot. "New Girl" has a few fun moments (I can't remember right now). However, the premise is so lame and Zoe Deschanel's character, "Jess", is so contrived and vapid that I actually cringe when she speaks. Her naive character is so forced that it is actually insulting to its audience. She dresses like a large preschooler and talks really, really slowly. So yes, I guess you could say that I'm not a huge fan. The worst part (which is why I'm here typing away) is when the Dad of one of Jess' students (I have no idea which Season this is...half the time I fall asleep) comes into play. He's creepy-old for her and there's no real reason for them to be together. There's no chemistry, but the question lingers, "Why would a wealthy, established, older man fall for such a dumb-a**?" Well....Ewww, I won't go there. Great message for the teen crowd for sure. And of course, Jesse says silly stuff and gets drunk so the Dad-date needs to "save" her. Yikes - It's THAT bad. I do like the CeCe character. She's the second main female character. She's beautiful, intelligent, and seems to know what she wants without acting moronic. Anyway....I know that this is a rambling mess, but I couldn't sit on my couch and take it! What we do to bond with our kids!
