Synopsis

Notes from the Underbelly is an American sitcom that debuted on ABC as a midseason replacement. The series is based upon the novel of the same name by Risa Green, and is produced by Eric and Kim Tannenbaum for Warner Bros. Television. The title is a parody of Dostoevsky's novel Notes from Underground. Originally, it was supposed to debut on October 5, 2006, along with Big Day, but ABC made a last-minute change in its schedule by moving Ugly Betty to Thursday, thus replacing both sitcoms. After numerous scheduling changes prior to the shows premiere, the show premiered Thursday, April 12, 2007 at 10:00PM Eastern/9:00PM Central, and moved to its regular Wednesday timeslot at 8:30PM Eastern/7:30PM Central on April 18. Notes from the Underbelly began its second season on November 26, 2007 in the new timeslot of 9:30PM Eastern/8:30PM Central on Mondays, leading out of fall's second highest rated freshman sitcom, Samantha Who?. On May 13, 2008, ABC opted not to renew the series for a third season. In Russia, all 23 episodes of the series were shown on NTV.

oldfarcut Usually an aging sitcom waits right around "jumping the shark" time to get the leading female pregnant in a pathetic attempt to boost ratings. This sad attempt actually uses pregnancy as the basis for the whole show! What will they do to carry the premise when the kid is born, have her get pregnant again, rinse, and repeat, ad infinitum? A friend recommended this because she is a big Jennifer Westfeldt fan from some movie she did years ago, so I figured I'd give it a try. Show is Total Zilch IMHO! Been done before, A LOT BETTER! The characters are almost all idiots except for the endearingly vicious lawyer, Cooper. Better to kill off everyone else and build the entire show around her. Another waste of 30 min headed for the ratings trashcan!Nothing funny happening here folks, move along quietly!
sugarplumz001 I love this show. I look forward to watching it every week because it is funny and witty. As someone who is just starting on the process, this show really gets the couple dynamics. I love seeing something on the show and saying, oh, that is exactly what just happened. The comedy is classic, Gilmore Girl- esquire in nature. The main characters are very relatable, and I know I have friends like the friends in the show. I haven't seen a show that has this exact focus on the pregnancy, but that's just me. It isn't the kind of show that a Critic would like, but then again I watch TV to relax and unwind rather than treat it like an art form.
j-w-bischke I know little about boobs but I do know that they don't fill up until a few hours after delivery, not in the first six or so weeks. I think it is important that even sitcoms are accurate in what they say and teach. Many people will use such misinformation as truth, never checking for accuracy and will simply accept what they see and hear as truth. I think we need to hold writers accountable for what they present and reject the fallacies. Many people will believe anything they read in a newspaper or see on TV but there is no end of foolishness and error presented in the media. People need to be a bit more questioning in what they see and hear. These last eight lines plus the next are just a way to fill up the message so it will post, I said what I had to say in the first two lines.
Jeff Howard At its best, it is mildly clever. Not funny or entertaining, but clever. At its worst, it is pretentious and canned. A lot of the dialog feels like dialog. People wouldn't talk this way, ever, except if they are a character on a TV show that is killing itself to be cool.Random characters are thrown in to say things that people would never say, so that the characters can chime in with a witty retort. When comedy has to be forced in the first episode, well, you have to ask yourself where it is going to go from there. There are some good actors involved, though some seem out of their league. (I wouldn't name them, that's rude.)It's funny. At the Aspen Comedy festival, I heard the creator of "The Winner" say that everyone seems to think that single-camera shows are automatically cool. I love "The Office" and loved "Arrested Development", and like "My Name is Earl." This show does not compare.Basically, I'll be surprised if this one comes back.
