Spiritual Ryan
I'd have given the first half of this about an 8/10 but then the writer (in my opinion) got lazy/chickened out towards the end.I suspect the writer meant for the secret of the parasites to get out eventually, (At a certain point it became preposterous that this hadn't happened.) and the show was to become quite different in structure and scope when that happened. But the prospect of properly handling a completely different kind of narrative, a new direction for the show, as well as the introduction of new important characters, (that need to also be interesting) and a much longer story with a proper ending became too daunting, so instead the writer copped out and left many plot holes and created many more in an attempt to quickly bring it to a haphazard close. It quickly became logically incoherent and laughably hamfisted in it's (clearly nihilistic and seemingly global warming centered) messages... The show's apparent climax(s) consisted mostly of exposition in the form of long speeches from the protagonist that sound like they could have come from some nihilistic, liberal, university professor. I very much doubt this clearly talented writer set out to write something that ended in such a disappointing and IMO downright embarrassing way. Reminded me of the filler ending of the Claymore anime. "Lets just ignore everything else the plot was doing and give the main character someone to have an exciting fight with, and the audience'll be happy enough with that." Except Parasyte went with having two life threatening but otherwise boring fights instead. The friend I was watching it with saw that it was coming apart at the seams and decided to stop watching and do something better with his time only two episodes away from the end, I regret not following his lead...If you're gonna watch it my advise is to skip the last two episodes at least, it should be fairly clear to you at that point that a satisfying and plot hole free ending would be totally impossible with only two episodes left. I only continued because I thought the series might've still been coming out.

WHAT I LIKED1. Interesting story of aliens invading human bodies as parasites and the philosophical questioning of the true nature of humans and parasites.2. The music.WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE1. The first half of the show was strong but the latter part of the show was weak and not upto the mark.2. The last episode was unnecessary.TOP 5 EPISODES1. Stage: 10 - What Mad Universe2. Stage: 07 - A Dark Night's Passing3. Stage: 23 - Life and Oath4. Stage: 20 - Crime and Punishment5. Stage: 21 - Sex and SpiritVERDICTA good show that could have been much better had the latter part of the show been stronger.7/10 - Good

While initially an enticing prospect (for the anime crowd), this show eventually disappoints through a premature climax (with a drawn out eco-existential epilogue) and the somewhat irrational development of its characters. In brief this is a supernatural high school action show, with radical environmentalist undertones that I suspect emerge from underlying Shinto philosophy. However, I wouldn't try read into this show too much, it doesn't deserve the effort. It could have been good. The music was nice, the meager emotional development of the protagonist enjoyable, and the action hinting towards an epic showdown. In the end however, this show is really really really stupid.I do not recommend.

First, let me start with this. The target audience is high-schoolers. There is little originality in this show as it was made many times before under different titles (Tokyo Ghoul comes to mind). However, that is not my problem with it. My problem is that the characters are really bland and boring and the action sequences induce sleep. But, I like that the creators did not feel the need to pepper every episode with too many cringe inducing moments. Which is why I kept watching hoping for some interesting ideas and character development to happen. Obviously, I was disappointed. I don't think the show is worth watching for anyone over 18.
