Reviews

charhunt-90594 It took me until the third epidode to get past the creepiness and sexualization of the children. I did not read the book so cannot compare it to the show. I enjoyed the characters and appreciated how they did not make them too likable. Their faults and weaknesses make them relateable to me. The pace is slow at first but it takes time to draw you in. I loved the series and reccomend to anyone who enjoys the tenacity of those who pursue evil.
princess_joyjoy Whoever directed and wrote this needs to take a long hard look at their work. The piece is overacted, contains stilted dialogue, music that patronises the viewer and shoddy camera work... this magical combination make this plaguristic Frankenstein piece uncomfortable viewing. It's such a shame as the cast have a good pedigree and the original books are more than workable into a decent script.
J B Apparently this isn't a faithful adaption of the source material, I wouldn't know, but it's definitely a lot better than most tv series you'll encounter around a similar rating as it has on this day of writing (7.8).The Alienist is well made. Everything about the production is top of the line, the acting suffices, it's sometimes even good. It just suffers from minor issues in the writing, especially in the motivation of some of the characters, or the plausibility of how they end up at certain positions or locations but other than that, this is definitely worth a watch if you can get past the books.
scoman1 Good writing and acting. The time period is the perfect backdrop. It is dark and grity but considering the topic it needs to be.
